Hello everyone, hope the weekend went well for you. I had a great weekend doing two shoots, one for Lee right in the middle of Manhattan and one on my own. I have been using the forum to get ideas and feedback on shoots and some business advice. www.fstoppersforum.com . This week I have ran across some beautiful models in the behind the scenes videos. Finding attractive models is something we can all do to make our photos stand out even more. If you have any questions, comments or even need some feedback check out the forum. Thanks again for the comments everyone. contactfstoppers@gmail.com
A few weeks ago we created a post that showed a few shots from what I believe will be our most popular Fstoppers video yet. I am currently editing the video and I hope to have it finished some time next week. Until then I thought it would be fun for you guys to critique my favorite shot from the shoot and then when the video launches we can see if your opinions change. Please visit the new critique section of our forum here and let the bashing begin.

In this video photographer Ayaad Damouni and world renowned hair-stylist Sam McKnight work on a photoshoot for Hia Magazine. Ayaad doesn’t share a lot of photography tips in this video but it is still fun to watch. Also, watch Sam as he works with the models helping them add some movement to their hair. I think he’s using a big Bowens Jet Stream Wind Machine and probably just photoshops out the strays. Very clean shoot and it looks like the lighting is pretty minimal. Enjoy
Joseph just sent this BTS video over to me. The video is lacking but the images are so good that I wanted to post this anyway. It is pretty amazing what you can do with a small softbox on a stick. You can view more details about this shoot and the final images here.
This is obviously a huge ad for Lynx Rise shower gel but hey, it worked. Check out this BTS video of their photoshoot.
I hope it is not too soon to feature another video of a camera sent to space with a weather balloon but the footage taken from the Pacific Star II is really amazing! This was all done with two cheap Canon point and shoot cameras off ebay, a weather balloon, and a simple Styrofoam enclosure. It still blows my mind that such a simple setup can produce such beautiful shots.
Chase Jarvis has apparently figured out the secrets of creating a viral video. I think he released this video 3 days ago and it already has 50,000 views. I don’t mean to keep posting CJ videos but they are all really good so here another. Check it out!
Earlier in the week we posted a quick video from Annie’s photoshoot with Keith Richards. Today I thought I’d share an interview Time Magazine did with Leibovitz where she talks about some of her work, what it’s like running a photoshoot, how she used to work with her assistants, and the whole Miley Cyrus controversy. There are no cameras or crazy lighting in this video but I think all of that stuff becomes secondary in comparison to being a confident photographer, having great ideas, and executing a productive photoshoot. Hope you enjoy
Recently I have been meeting random people who are Fstoppers readers. Sometimes they are professional photographers, sometimes they don’t own anything more than a point and shoot camera. It got me wondering… who is our average reader (or in our case, watcher)? Click on one of the options below and let’s find out!
Okay I’m not an apple fanboy or anything (I’m the only photographer still using a PC) but this new iPhone 4 is pretty cool. I’m most excited that it can now take 720p 30 fps video which is perfect for shooting behind the scenes videos of your photoshoots. I got my iPhone 4 early and figured I would take it out on the water to do a little video comparison with the iPhone 3Gs. If you are an iPhone user, this new phone is a necessary upgrade if only for the HD video and LED flash for low light photos and videos.

Welcome to the Wednesday Rundown.
Lately I have been working my way to shooting my first wedding on my own. I have assisted Lee and Patrick several times but I have not felt confident enough to put someone’s special day in my hands yet. This week I had the chance to check out a workshop in NYC to hopefully put me closer to my goals. Check the forum out to see what tip I learned http://fstoppersforum.com . Now for some videos to get myself and you through the rest of the week.
Thanks again for the comments everyone. contactfstoppers@gmail.com
One of our readers Rhett Bingham just sent this over to us. I really do not see the point in this at all but it is so well shot that I have got to promote it. Even though I would never ever do this for any reason, it blew my mind that someone would.
One of our forum members “sajamil” created a cool thread on the Fstoppers forum. He asked us to critique the person in the post above you and then give a link to a website where the next poster will critique you. We would love for you to be a part of this FS community and join in on this fun photo critique by clicking here.

I’m a big fan of Annie Leibovitz’s photography (who isn’t), and a few weeks ago I was admiring this photograph she did of Keith Richards for Louis Vuitton. I was really happy when I found a short behind the scenes video of it via Strobist even though the quality is really poor. Click the post to view the final image and hopefully you can see how relatively simple this photoshoot was in lighting. It’s the overall production and attention to detail that really makes this image so awesome.
James Karinejad has officially raised the bar on this contest. His team shot Emma Michelle’s music video and he created a great BTS video to show us everything that went into making this a successful piece. View the full post to see the finished product and remember to please leave James feedback in the comments below or on his forum post here.
