Monte Isom is one of my all time favorite photographers. He’s been featured on Fstoppers a bunch and is a regular at our New York City meetups. Not only is Monte hilarious but he’s also a pretty dang talented commercial photographer. In this short BTS video, Monte shows how he shot the promotional material for the Broadway Musical Newsies in NYC. If you are a fan of Spiderman, you’ve probably seen his work lately too! [more]

Some of our readers might have met up with Monte Isom at last month’s Fstoppers NYC Meetup. His videos have been fan favorites on the site and this week he is sharing another one of his commercial shoots. In this behind the scenes video, Monte shows you how he photographed his latest Molson Export Ale ad campaign featuring hockey players as they slide in towards the camera. As always, Monte has a lot of fun on his shoots and hopefully you can gain some ideas for shoots of your own from this video.
A few weeks ago I posted a video that created a lot of unintentional buzz about poorly compositing athletes together on a football field. Well this video from Monte Isom doesn’t include much photoshop but still produces a lot of great images. Monte always has a great time on his sets and hopefully you NYC readers will be able to share a drink with him tomorrow at our FS Meetup.
Monte Isom had one of the most populars videos on Fstoppers back in February. Well he is back with a fun stop motion video for NYC comedian Colin Kane. Monte filmed this entire video on the Nikon D3s with just a few Litepanel 1×1 bicolor constant lights. The final video was made with 14,000 still images to create the final 90 second promo. Below is the final video but you can check out the BTS video in the Full Post as well as read Monte’s own words on how he approached this shoot.
Earlier in the week I posted a video featuring commercial photographer Monte Isom photographing comedian Colin Kane. We’ll it turns out Monte has been filming great behind the scenes videos of his photoshoots all along. In this video Monte shows you not only how he created the fun ad campaign for the EA Sports FIFA 2010 video game but also how he secured the job in the first place! It’s really great to see photographers like Monte having a good time on their shoots and also showing exactly how they took a concept, pitched some images, and ultimately won the bidding war to secure a high end project. If only every photographer would be so open with sharing their success stories we might have more videos like this. Monte gives some exclusive insight on the shoot and the final image on the packaging in the full post.

These days, creating a portrait that grabs the average pedestrian’s attention isn’t an easy task. So what did local New York City comedian Colin Kane do to spice it up a little? He added a raging mob of crazy people behind him in this awesome portrait by photographer Monte Isom. It looks like Monte used a large 7′ Octabank to light the crowd and then a beauty dish with a little fill from a smaller softbox to give Colin a harsh key light look without losing the shadows. I love the overall idea and I’ve personally always wanted to work with a big group of people like in this video. If you are in NYC, check out Colin’s stand up act and definitely head over to Monte’s site to see some mind blowing advertising images as well as the largest group photo ever!
