Some of you may have heard of David Douglas Duncan – famous for his war images, portraits and being a close friend of Pablo Picasso. His Leica M3 was sold for $2.19 million – the highest price ever paid for a commercially manufactured camera. Although the camera’s price has to do mainly with the images that came from it, it was also one of only four Leica M3Ds ever created – the “D” stands for Duncan. The cameras were ‘battle hardened’ to withstand some pretty tough situations. [more]

Is this really the hip thing to do these days? Why is it that I keep reading headlines like this of wedding photographers turning to their iPhone versus their camera gear? I get that it’s trendy, and within seconds (with no Photoshop needed) you can add a grunge effect with an Instagram filter and have it posted online. But seriously… *shakes head*

The iphone is such a powerful device, download the right apps and you can create some inspiring photographs. Don’t get me wrong I am just as big of a gear head as anyone else, but I don’t let lack of equipment stop me from constantly taking pictures. I find myself taking excessive amounts of photos on my iphone. Adding on to nick Fancher’s “Inspiration over gear” post, for me I need to create. Many times I find myself wishing I had my camera with me, then realize my iphone is in my pocket. I have been able to capture a lot of moments in my life that otherwise would have evaded my memory as time passed. [more]
The path to success changes based on who you ask. There is no one path that gets you where you want to be. As creatives, we keep defining that path daily. If you’ve ever wondered about a simple, travel friendly time lapse setup, check this out. During his recent time in South Africa, Chase Jarvis was able to use four different cameras to capture time lapse sequences over the course of two hours. Not only does Chase break down the settings he uses, he also explains how time settings of his camera will translate to a final product at 24 fps.
