Annie Leibovitz is, in my opinion, one of the only photographers that has managed to become a household name. She is so iconic that even people that don’t care about photography seem to know who she is. That’s why this video is so cool. In it we get to hear a young version of the 63 year old icon talk about her hopes for the future. [more]
The other day, David Bickley wrote a fantastic article on 365 projects. In the article he made some great points about how the project will sharpen the photographer’s skills and even lead to work. And while I agree that projects like this are great for growing as a photographer as well as producing regular content for your readers, I know that it can lead to burning out, for both the photographer and the reader.

For me, it seems like hurricane Sandy was forever ago. Then again I live in Las Vegas, and I wasn’t affected by it. Talking to friends and family back east though, it’s a different story. Vogue is catching a lot of heat from angry readers, saying that their latest fashion shoot by Annie Leibovitz is exploiting and profiting off of the recent natural disaster.

At 43 years old, No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani poses for Annie Leibovitz for the January cover of Vogue magazine looking spectacular. A short behind the scenes video of the shoot was shared. While there is no instructional content in the 3 minute video it is interesting to get a behind the scenes peek into the shoot and see how the different sets are put together. While most of the shoot was of Gwen wearing some amazing threads, her band did make a cameo appearance in some of the shots. [more]
Vulture.com selected what they believe to be the best images of 2012 to wrap up the year. From Lady Gaga to David Cross, these are some of the most remarkable portraits made to print. Some actors, some musicians, quite of few of these portraits are just bizarre and unusual – making them all the more interesting. [more]
Annie Leibovitz, who got her start with Rolling Stone Magazine and is more recently one of the most sought-after commercial photographers, is asking $33 million for a massive 10,202-square-foot property in NYC. In 2007, Leibovitz put her entire work (and future work) up as collateral for a $24 million loan to help pay off some of her debt. I can’t help but think this should definitely help her keep the rights to her own work… [more]
Pascal Dangin is the founder and chief of Box Studios, a retouching house based out of NYC. They’re known for retouching some of the world’s best photographs, some of which grace Vogue and Vanity Fair. He also works with Annie Leibovitz and Steven Meisel. Unofficially, he’s credited as being the world’s most sought after retoucher in the industry. He is also very mysterious and so is Box. Here, we get an in depth look at what goes on behind the scenes at Box. [more]
I just caught a repost A Photo Editor did on the “100 Most Influential Photographers of All Time” by Professional Photographer Magazine and had to throw it up for our readers to explore. So for all of you who think that posts like Hula Hoop Girls at Burning Man are lacking in photography fiber, I’ll give you this to chew on. [more]
Some photos of Olympic sensation Michael Phelps have risen online that could land the swimmer in hot water. The photos by Annie Leibovitz for Louis Vuitton were leaked on the Internet late last week, violating the International Olympic Committee’s controversial Rule 40, which states athletes can’t promote any non-Olympic sponsors from July 18 to August 15. Phelps could stand to lose his medals. [more]
Last week Lee Morris posted a few behind the scenes images of Annie Leibovitz’s latest Disney Campaign featuring Russell Brand as the villainous Captain Hook and funnymen Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Jason Segel as the hitchhiking ghosts from ‘The Haunted Mansion’ ride. Here are two behind the scenes videos of each photoshoot respectively. [more]
Annie Leibovitz is one of the most famous photographers in the world and many know her as the photographer that shot the real life Disney scenes. Well this time Annie is at it again and for these 2 new shots actors Russel Brand, Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Jason Segel play 4 famous Disney Characters. Once again Annie’s lighting combined with amazing post production has created a couple amazing shots. [more]
As many of you probably agree, some of the photos of Olympic athletes thus far have been either strange or downright bad. It relieves me to find that there are some commissioned photographs that don’t make me cringe, but rather put a smile on my face. Both TIME and Women’s Health commissioned photographs that, in my opinion, really nailed the “Olympic Photograph.” [more]
In the June 2012 issue of Vogue, photographer Annie Leibovitz had the amazing opportunity to photograph eight very talented US Olympic athletes alongside supermodel Karlie Kloss. Over the years, Annie has become known for her over-the-top sets and detailed lighting set-ups. [more]
Days of preparation, hundreds of people, and 57 Profoto strobes culminated in just five minutes and forty-two seconds of fast-paced shooting. In photographer Art Streiber’s own words, “it was pretty huge, and a little out of control.” I’ll say. In an Fstoppers exclusive, we go behind the scenes of one of the largest and most sensitive group photo shoots ever undertaken with 116 of Hollywood’s greatest stars on one stage at one time to celebrate Paramount Studio’s 100th anniversary.
