Amazing Ice Cube Reproduction Of A Painting

Shot completely on a Canon 5D Mark II, Director Laurent Pratlong created this fascinating video called Water Pixels. This reproduction of a 30×30 painting took around 12 hours, 99 ice cube molds, 16 different colors and 30 liters of water to freeze 900 ice cubes.

From the Director: The film was shot with 7 Canon 5D Mark II cameras, most of them using Canon 100mm L2.8 Macro lens. It took about 4 hours for the everything to melt. I had intervalometers set between 10 and 15 seconds, depending on the framing. I had two cameras that were dedicated to the top shot and the front. I found myself flying between the 5 cameras, changing framing, and playing with the focus. The final result is a piece inspired by David Hockney’s, A Bigger Splash, a californian painter who focused his work on painting swimming pools.

what painting was that? kinda looked like a video game? Would have liked a grander scale.

The article said it was inspired by David Hockney’s “A Bigger Splash”.

I can kind of see it. Pretty hard to tell with such a “low resolution” due to their being few icecubes and it being a small scale.
