Nikon USA has just announced the a brand new super-tele zoom, as well as a slew of new compact cameras. These include the Nikon Coolpix A a DX format compact, the P330, S3500 and L320. This is really good news because with the advent of a relatively large format sensor, compact camera, does this mean that smaller and super light full frame bodies are on the way?
Since the release of The Matrix over a decade ago, we’ve all seen the incredible “Bullet Time” segments done by many different people, including an incredible surfing video using the technique, but something I’ve never seen before is this technique used on something as large as a car. The Splice Boys, a team comprised of Richard Kendall and Tom Brandon created this massive camera moves using dozens of cameras all rigged to go off at specific intervals.

Jay P. Morgan of The Slanted Lens has released a video that gives us a detailed look at one of the most basic aspects of portrait photography, the single light portrait. It’s a very basic technique, but it’s incredibly versatile set up that can be used to create many different looks. In this video, Jay P. Morgan is using a Canon 1DC and shooting video from which he will pull stills. It’s a different way of shooting than we might be used to, but the end results are can look a lot more natural than posed pictures as the model is given much greater freedom to move around. [more]

A few weeks ago, the South Carolina Military Museum offered me the chance photograph some of their massive collection of World War II firearms, shooting for the excellent Curio and Relic Firearms website C&Rsenal, and I jumped at the chance. I’ve always been fascinated by antique firearms not because of their destructive capabilities, but because they are incredibly elegant machines that are very, very simple. So needless to say I was very excited to get the opportunity to “shoot” them.
What started out as an small project to kill time during slow business months has turned into a major project that’s been picked up by numerous news outlets and taken him all across Europe in search of these hauntingly beautiful structures. In this video, Jonathan Andrews photographs the remains of World War Two bunkers and defenses and walks you through his entire process from inspiration to actually shooting.

Film has always had an unmistakable feel to it that is difficult if not impossible to reproduce digitally, but the days of that being true may be numbered. RED, a company known for the EPIC line of digital cinema cameras has recently released the above test image from their newest sensor, Dragon and I’m stunned. With over 18 stops of dynamic range, Jim Jannard of RED has said that the new sensor shouldn’t even be compared to 35mm film.
Since the increased availability of small, high quality video cameras, we’ve seen some truly amazing footage. But this video from Scott Ziegler gives us a first hand look at what firefighters deal with on a call! It’s pretty intense! The music on the video might be NSFW in places so you might want to turn your sound down.
John Keatley’s portraits always have a great sense of fun about them that I’ve always appreciated and this series isn’t any different. This series is for the Wexley School for Girls Advertising Agency and John Keatley’s sense of humor is in full swing. These simply lit photographs are a lot of fun and it’s great to have a look at how they were made.
