BTS Alla Kostromichova For FaceControl (NSFW)

While this BTS doesn’t give a lot of insight into techniques used, you can still gather a lot of info from it. I found it interesting that the photographer, Julia Chernih, used just natural light and a reflector. Also upon closer inspection it looks as if she shot the whole thing on a Canon 50mm f1.8 (my favorite lens, but I will go into that another time), which is pretty sweet to me. The photos came out gorgeous using a very minimal setup.

How do you guys know, that this is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 and not the f/1.4?
                Thanks!

Really really neat images. #3 seems a bit sloppy though, if you look closely on the left side of the hair it seems as if you can see where she cloned? May be me though.

I say it all the time. A great clean location, a great model, great hair and make up and great natural light. You have to work very hard to get bad images from that.

A fashion shoot with no detail in the clothes?  Comments are too kind and not constructive at all.

              • http://twitter.com/intensitystudio Antonio Carrasco

I agree with you… I was more trying to say that the shoot in this article probably had 1/100th the budget of the SI Swimsuit Kate Upton shoot, but the images in this one are so much better.

                Items needed for fashion shoot:
                - nice location
                - fabulous model
                - amazing stylists
                - great hair/makup
                - minimal gear…ironic no? :-)

I take nothing away from the photographer, these are very nice shots but I will say this is a case of great pictures mostly to do with a great subject rather than technique, lighting, lens, etc, etc. not that a great camera, lens and light on their own can make a great picture, but when you have subject material that is dynamic, beautiful, and as interesting as this, it’s kind of hard to screw up pictures – particularly if they have generally good composition.

Again, nothing against Julia here, she did a great job getting great results, but its easy to understand how just a reflector, an older body, and a $100 lens could get this done.
