[BTSV] Contest Entry: Queen of Spades (how it should be done)

engg [BTSV] Contest Entry: Queen of Spades (how it should be done)

This is how you get a great shot. You start with inspiration and you carry it all the way through. In this case Stanislav Stepanov, like so many old school photographers before him, drew his inspiration from classic movie lighting (film noir in particular/ “White Heat” specifically). Good luck Stanislav and don’t apologize for you English, your process speaks for itself. December 31st is the last day for contest entries. Get on it.

I admire the wise reference to classic cinema.

Very creative – nicely executed (no pun intended)

The best so far I would say… and what makes it even better is the fact that he used very modest means to get to a awesome result!! yet another great example where vision is better then gear.

I like the final result, but I think that the ‘detective’ in the back is just distracting.. I can see just a part of his shirt, for me that’s not a plus to the image..

I really like the shot, but I think it works a lot better in colour.

The colour of the floor is fantastic, and there’s so much dark shadow area I don’t think it has the same punch in B&W.

I know it’s meant to Film Noir and stuff, but you still totally get the Noir feel of it when it’s colour.
