do you see that a 2.8 version with current pricetag AND stabilization would have appealed and convinced BOTH targets at the same time, photo and video? especially nowadays photographers are stepping both feet into video.. exactly what tamron is doing right now. i wish they improved their build quality. i had a 28-75 2.8 and it was crap on that side..

I agree to a certain extent, but seeing as all lenses can be stopped down, filmmakers don’t need to buy a new lens JUST for shooting in f/4.

i’ve been waiting for a revamped 35 f2 for the last four years, now it shows up and BANG, 8 effing hundred bucks!? you kidding?! gonna seek around for a used 35 L instead. :D
now seriously. i desperately want a 35mm lens. but. but. then i think i might get multiple advantages since i’d be using it a lot on video too..
wishlisted for next spring, aaalright!

Both of these are targeted for film makers. Canon videographers have been screaming for these light lenses to have an IS version. The f/4 is great because while walking or even having the camera on a Merlin or stedicam, it is impossible to change focus. So keeping the depth of field deeper helps out tremendously. I can see photographers being frustrated with this because it falls short of what they need but videographers should be very happy with these new lenses.

I’m very much looking forward to the 35mm f2 IS. If the image quality is excellent, this will be an incredible tool. I’ve always wanted a 35mm focal length but couldn’t afford to own the 35mm 1.4L (Thank God for rentals) and the cheaply made alternative was not an option. These lenses are an awesome addition to an already sweet lineup and finally, the non L lenses are getting the better builds they deserve.
