Canon EOS M Finally Makes Its Appearance

Well that was a longer wait that we originally anticipated, but the Canon EOS M mirrorless camera and all the accessories are finally in stock coast to coast. BorrowLenses.com got them in house on November 10 and B&H just confirmed stock of the camera today.

In case you need a recap, here’s what to expect out of the now available Canon EOS M Mirrorless camera:

              • 18.0 MP CMOS (APS-C) Sensor
              • DIGIC 5 Image Processor
              • Full HD 1080p Movie with Focus Tracking
              • 3.0″ Touch Screen LCD with 1040K-dots
              • Touch AF and Multi-touch Operation
              • Hybrid CMOS Auto-focus for Photo & Video
              • Compatible with Canon EF and EF-S Lenses
              • ISO 100-12800, Expandable to 25600 (H)
              • Includes Canon EF-M 22mm F/2 STM Lens

I don’t know what Canon’s deal is, but they have been late on many of their products over the past year and a half. We waited for the 24-70 II for what seemed like an eternity, so in comparison an extra month waiting for the EOS M isn’t that bad I suppose. We have one in the mail on its way to us for testing, so expect a review from us in the near future. So far the biggest complaint has been slow auto focus (lame), but we’ll reserve judgement until it arrives.

You can purchase the EOS M and and the Adapter Kit for EF lenses at B&H now, or grab one for a test drive at BorrowLenses.com.

If this has the same slow auto focus as the G12 its will have been a huge waste of time. If its as snappy as the Olympus 4/3 cameras I will definitely be interested

I got to play with it two weeks ago and it seemed snappy. Kenmore Camera (Local Washington Store) had their huge Digital Camera Expo where Cannon & Nikon (as well as others) where there to peddle all their new wares and this was one of them. I am not too thrilled on the looks but it seemed to function quite nice.

In your review, I would enjoy seeing a 400mm 2.8 lens on this thing… mainly because I think it would be hilarious

Ok, I’d be down for that. If I do it, know that I did it specifically for you Tyler :)

It has VERY quick and accurate auto focus. I have had a chance to try this new unit out extensively with both available lenses. It isn’t an exciting release, but it does the trick and fits nicely into the CSC (Compact System Camera) market.

Didn’t Canon have some supply issues out of Thailand a few years ago, which were related to flloding.  It slowed much of their production – perhaps they’ve never fully got back up and running with the suppliers.  Never the less – Canon puts out a Cracker jack product nearly every time; Can’t fault that!

Ha, I got my White version from Canon direct more than a week ago.  Love the style, weight and features. Hate the SLOW autofocus.  Touch screen will take some geting used to, but it is an interesting option to point / focus / expose. . .   Flash and EF adapter arrived today, all from separate vendors.  Me likey alot.
