Canons Creativity with a Twist Campaign
              January 7, 2013
              Jaron Schneider

Canon’s “Creativity with a Twist” Campaign

Well, the teaser ad from Canon France that we showed you last week was confirmed today. The PowerShot N is the compact camera that Canon is pushing of their four released cameras today. Here is a promo video they put on Youtube. Is anyone excited about this, and if so, why?

You can pre-order the cubist camera now for $300.

I’m excited about it. It’s something completely different and modern and unlike Canon so I hope it does well to push them out-of-the-box. I like the square-form factor. I think it’s too pricey, but I think it’s a step in the right direction. I love the mobile connectivity.

As a pro I don’t know if it’ll help my work, but I think it fits the modern mood of photography and I’d love to get one for my wife.

If it translates into square images in a pro body (PLEASE!) and mobile connectivity in DSLRs I’m all for it!

I hate camera phone photos, so the smaller they make actual cameras, that are zoom capable, the better.  Especially if it has sharing capabilities, strait to FB, or instagram, etc.

I think this is what “pocket cams” are going to.  The current versions just don’t make any sense when we have 8-12mp on our phones.  I think this is a step in the right direction for all companies to try and beat/catchup with camera phones.  To me I think there are three categories, 1. pocket cams that are smaller than our phones but more powerful/faster/connected.  2. pocket(able) pro quality cameras like the fuji X series/ Sony RX1 and 3. DSLRs.  I’m surprised people still purchase “pocket cameras” anymore, I’m guessing it’s because they don’t have a smartphone.  Times R Changin!  Gotta love gadgets!  =)  At first glance I actually thought this was a GoPro rival from Canon.  I don’t see why Canon or Nikon can’t jump head first in that market and dominate.  Who knows.  Go go Gadget stuff!

Excited to see how the reviews turn out for this. Like the earlier poster said” I don’t know if it’ll help my work, but I think it fits the modern mood of photography” I’m just curious how people adapt to the new shutter release, however that works.

In my humble opinion, the GoPro is  a very un-Japanese camera, and I would not expect anyone to replicate it. GP’s look like an engineer’s plaything, whereas Japanese products tend to focus on connecting humans with technology – the more wheels, buttons, scene modes, etc, the better.

That being said, the reign of the point-n-shoot is squarely past it’s golden days, so they really need a reason to exist. Nikon’s ultra-small-coolpix or this camera make a good stab at staying relevant.

First thing I thought too when I saw this camera.

If this came with manual settings for aperture and exposure and the chance to shoot RAW it would have been a huge game changer. The buddy little thing in everyone’s pocket with capability to do anything needed in every casual situation.
