The Story of How Law Enforcement Uses Photoshop to Fight Crime

Though we all are pretty familiar with how Photoshop has helped make us better photographers and digital artists, what we don’t often think about is how the program has affected non-artistic segments of society. It’s the kind of thing we all have seen on the television series CSI for years, but never really believed was real. [more]

Multiple exposures is not a new technique in photography. Though uncommon now in the digital era, multiple exposure is the art of double exposing film in order to create interesting and unique results. With the latest DSLRs, this tool is now found tucked away in your camera settings, and is perhaps your camera’s best kept secret. [more]

Watch Sigma’s Mezmerizing Concept Video for New Product Line

In January we posted an unexpectedly captivating behind the scenes video of the Sigma factory in Aizu, Japan that many of you really liked (and which was shot entirely on Sigma glass). Sigma has just released another piece of eye candy in a new concept video that mixes really stunning visuals with equally beautiful music. It too was shot 100% with Sigma optics. [more]

How To Create an Indoor Rain Photoshoot

I’ve always found that photos that capture and freeze rain to be exceedingly interesting. Rain gives the photo depth and a moodier feel, but usually you have to wait for a storm to blow through your area, or invest in a rain machine. No longer. Benjamin Von Wong has figured out a way to create those wonderfully drenched and moody shots without even stepping outdoors. [more]

Redbull’s New Skate Film

Redbull’s newest short film truly is a masterpiece. Even if you are not a skateboarding enthusiast you should watch just to appreciate the cinematography. With Marc Ritzema as the cinematographer and Ryan Sheckler, Torey Pudwill, Ryan Decenzo, and Zered Bassett skating, the film is a visually stunning and rather remarkable. The slow-mo shots are beautiful and ramped so well. Marc is such a creative film maker and the personal touch he leaves on his films are very admirable. His story lines flow very well and never leave the viewer bored. Marc filmed this with a Phantom flex & epic. [more]

Making a Composite Image That Is Larger Than Life

I really like the team at PLEARN because they consistently come up with great photo shoot concepts, but they don’t just leave it at that. They also show you have to make those images yourself in a casual yet informative manner. This week they show you how to create a composite that takes a woman and puts her in a room that’s just a little too small. [more]

This Camera Will Make You See With Your Ears

Dr. Amir Amedi, brain researcher and Neurobiology professor from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, developed a technology that lets blind people ‘see’ with their ears. In this TEDx talk (TEDxJerusalem) he shows how he managed to use a simple camera, and transform the video captured into sound waves that quickly become visual images in the brain. It’s amazing to see how they can ‘see’ when someone smiles at them, just by listening to the video they capture with that small camera. [more]
