"Beauty" is a short video by Rino Stefano Tagliafeirro, and it's a captivating 10 minutes that brings to life still paintings with a somewhat eerie soundtrack that almost forces rapt attention. The manifesto is described as delving into the "enigma of beauty." I would say more, but this is just one of those things that needs to be experienced. Warning, this does contain painted nudes.
As wedding photographers we are hired to show up and photograph one of the most important days in the life of our clients. So what happens if you get sick, or even die, with weddings jobs under contract? Do you have a plan? This week I had an eye opening experience that made me rethink my own plan. Here's my story and some tips to help you develop a plan of your own.
In 2014, Gulf Photo Plus celebrates their 10th year as one of the premiere photography workshops in the world. Lee and I experienced the event in Dubai last year for the first time, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Together with Joe Grimes, Zack Arias, Gregory Heisler, Lindsay Adler, David Hobby, and Joe McNally, GPP is raising the bar to produce an event you do not want to miss.
This morning as I was perusing through the front page of the internet, a.k.a. Reddit, I came across this 2-minute wedding video that had me laughing till my chest hurt. I couldn't help but watch it three times. The friends and family that helped plan this gypsy wedding sure know how to throw a fantastic dangerous party.
About 15 years ago, the first DSLR was introduced. The Nikon D1 showed consumers that digital was the future, and was quickly superseded by the Canon 1D. Sporting just 2.7 megapixels (and 4.15 megapixels for the Canon D1), the technology wasn't quite there to make the DSLR groundbreaking. 15 years later, the DSLR has become the staple for photographers everywhere. So where will we be in say, another 15 years?
The Academy Awards nominations were recently released and it's no surprise that "The Wolf of Wall Street" received nominations in the "Best Picture" and "Best Actor" categories, but what about visual effects? The visual effects for the movie while extremely subtle are outstanding to say the least. The company behind the special effects for the movie is Brainstorm Digital. They released the VFX breakdown of "The Wolf on Wall Street", and proves just how much special effects can have an impact on modern storytelling.
Speaking on camera can be stressful. Some people are born with that fearless gene that allows you to get that first take right out of the gate... the rest of us are not as fortunate. Thankfully for us there's teleprompters that help walk us through the process of speaking on camera. One of these popular teleprompters is the Pad Prompter by OneTakeOnly. A prompter that utilizes your portable tablet and transforms awkwardness to smooth takes.
I am a serial procrastinator, I will do it tomorrow is a common theme. However my goal this year is to meet my deadlines! Nothing is more unprofessional than missing a deadline for a client. With Google Calendar and a simple Excel / Google spreadsheet file I am able to schedule a multi-deadline schedule in a few clicks.
As many of you who have your own photography pages probably already noticed, Facebook drastically changed their Pages organic reach algorithm on December 3, 2013. We have been living with the changes for a month, analyzing the effects on our brand and how it affects you, and the news isn’t good. With dramatic decreases in reach and engagement, our Facebook community is not nearly what it was. So what can you do about your own Pages?
The "Selfie", love it or hate it, had a pretty great year. Within a decade the term has gone from drunk forum ramblings to being accepted into the Oxford English Dictionary as of November 2013. Scrabble players rejoice! This meteoric rise to fame for the simple word has garnered the attention of celebrities and it has even spawned customized cappuccino machines that turn your morning cup of joe into a literal cup of Joe...or Frank...or Bobby.
Long time AP photographer, Dave Martin, passed away after suffering a heart attack during the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Georgia. After Texas A&M's 52-48 win against Duke, Dave Martin ran onto the field and shot many celebratory shots before finally collapsing. He was administered CPR on the field before he was transported to Emory Hospital Midtown where he passed away Wednesday morning.
Yesterday, I posted about the most viewed post from this past year. While those posts are great pieces in their own right, there is so much more content for learning on Fstoppers. So this time, I want to show you the absolute best original content posts of this past year. These aren't organized by views, or anything arbitrary like that, these are just some of our favorite posts from this past year.
"Trevor, I have been editing this wedding for the last few days and now my Lightroom catalog says it is corrupted! When I opened a new catalog and reimported the photos from my hard disk I can't find any of my previous edits I worked so hard on. I am so frustrated! What did I do wrong?" Keep this from happening to you by having Lightroom automatically save your changes, but this setting is off by default. I'll show you where to turn it on.
One of the goals I have set for myself this year is to read and study one non-fiction book each month. I love reading and have learned so much from some great books over the years but just feel like it would be even better if I was able to do this with a group of like-minded photographers so we could read, discuss and learn from each other.
