It’s that time of the year people can get into character, and dress up as someone else (and yes, make fool of themselves). Australian photographer, Deb Morris, has created a really interesting niche for herself. She captures the beauty of micro-waves. Initially without description some of these images look just like regular sized waves. While most photographers focus on the huge waves, she focuses on waves that are no larger than 30 cm high! She focuses on the smallest ones that come to shore and captures them just when they break. The results are quite tranquil. [more]
Auckland based photog John Crawford has come up with a really interesting view on nude photography, aerial nudes. John’s use of composition and space in this series is what really draws attention to it. It is nude art done in a way that we wouldn’t typically expect to see it, and it is quite refreshing to see a new take on such an ancient form of artistic expression. Enjoy! [more]
In an effort to raise awareness of overfishing in the Atlantic Ocean, a coalition of photographers in Europe came together to work on a project known as FishLove. By showing how much these celebs love fish (enough to get naked with them!) they’re hoping to bring attention to the plight of many overfished species. While the photos are certainly attention grabbing, I think I much would have preferred video of naked celebrities trying to pose with live fish. Talented photographer and artist, Alberto Seveso, took the concept of shooting ink in water and introduced metallic inks into the mix. When frozen in time through water, the results are serene and hypnotic. Titled il mattino ha l’oro in bocca it directly translates to ‘The morning has gold in it’s mouth’. With such a simple concept, the execution is exceptional and worth your time. [more]
When you think of landscape photography, you may picture some of the most beautiful places on the planet at the perfect moments in time. Catherine Nelson likes to take her landscapes a step further and create entirely new planets. By stitching together hundreds of pictures from one point, she captures an entire scene in one picture. There is something truly magical about sunrises. That orange glow in the sky, that yellow haze, or just the fact no one is out there. Its just you and the view. Call me lazy (maybe?), but I just cant bring myself to wake up at 4am or 5am to photograph, or even just look at a sunrise. Artist Jay Mark Johnson has taken full advantage of slit scan photography, turning out some striking works of art that emphasizes time over space. These shots aren’t Photoshopped, movements are captured moment to moment while static subjects stretch out into lines where the width of an object corresponds not to distance or size, but the rate of movement. When asked to come up with some new promo material for the Progressive International Motorcycle Show that was creative, racy, and original, I.D.E.A met the challenge. By teaming up with Trina Merry, a body paint artist, and Juan Moreno, the photographer for the day, the team was able to create the motorcycles by using human bodies. [more]
