With the advancement of science, we’re starting to wonder if immortality is really possible. This series of photos by Murray Ballard explores Cryopreservation. This is basically people who have their bodies preserved in the hopes that they can be revived in the future when technological and scientific advancements have reached a point where they can come back to life and continue living on much longer. Derren Versoza has to be on the top of some of my favorite lifestyle photographers. The look he has is perfection and he can easily tell stories with his shots. He has been filming a lot of his shoots and put together a BTS overview of all of them. [more]
I’m sure at some point any of us who have shot film have shot a double exposure. Normally it’s an accident, sometimes it’s planned, normally it comes out funky, then again sometimes it’s gorgeous. Timothy Burkhart and Stephanie Bassos have started a project together where they both shoot the same roll of film. Stephanie will shoot an entire roll of 35mm film, and she only shoots people. Then Timothy will reload the roll of film into the same camera and only shoot places. They call the project People Vs Places and the results are often stunning.
These photos remind me of the series we featured showing North Korea from a western perspective. In another sense all together, it’s the complete opposite and contrasts greatly. It starts off by showing very basic well composed images, then it begins to make you realize how much people can actually get by with. [more]
Heights are my biggest fear. There is no way I could possibly do this and I applaud anyone who can. These guys are insane. Take a look at the awesome shots of these crazy climbers. [more]
You know, I might catch a lot of flack for what I am about to say, but whatever. I have never been that amazed by sharks. Whenever I have said this in the past, there was always someone who called me crazy. I’ve just never understood the obsession, or why Discovery devotes a whole week to them. Then I saw these photos by Michael Muller a while back, and my opinion changed dramatically. I have never seen such amazing photos of sharks before. If you are like I was, and you don’t understand the shark hype, check out these photos, and maybe your opinion will change some.
Street photography is the kind of photography most of us don’t usually like doing, but its probably the kind of photography we appreciate the most when the pictures become old. Its always amazing for me to see how people live, or lived, in other places or other times. Great street photography pictures can tell a story of time and place, and makes you make up your own story for the subject photographed. Check out these awesome photos and let us know which ones you like the best!

We’ve featured Markus Reugels on Fstoppers before for his images captured in water droplets series. I liked that series, but I love this one. Markus’ skill has improved dramatically, and the recent batch of water sculptures caught by freezing action is pretty spectacular. I would joyfully put any (or all) of these on my wall. [more]
Sam Kaplan, a New York-based product and still life photographer, was inspired to create a series of photographs of an object that is often enjoyed in the bedroom rather than on a gallery wall. Sam decided to change all of that, and his series ‘Insert Here’ takes the taboo and transforms it into an exploration of line, form, and color: Dildart, if you will. It goes without saying that you might want to be careful where you open this post. [more]
A collaborative project with Marshmallow Laser Feat and James Medcraft produces a “3D light painting” of the Mclaren P12 aerodynamic stream. Working with the car they were able to process the car’s wind tunnel airflow data and cut out paths for the lights. 650 Sliced frames were used on a motion control rig as it moved back and forth. Which in the end created 3d light painting. You can see more of this incredible work at marshmallowlaserfeast.com.
Peter Lundstrom shot the look-book for Courtrai Apperal in a featureless room that they built out of 5 basic walls and painted them all white for one look, and all black for the other. The final shots look great and leave the viewer looking at the image for a few extra seconds, which hopefully leaves them remembering the clothing a bit better than another brand with a model standing straight up. Below are some of the shots before they were cropped tight for the look-book as well as a video showing how they built the set and shot the book. Enjoy! [more]
Forgive me for the non-linear article to follow, but this is my first evaluation of the transitive properties of the figurative “E” and it’s marginal utility in the life of the Nikon D800. Whereas others may tell you which camera can photograph grass or your pet Weimaraner, I would like to talk about the real life application the D800 has to those of us that call this hobby a job. If you’re like Nick Selway and CJ Kale, it’s pretty far. They braved 110F water and floating lava bombs to capture some truly gorgeous images of lava flowing from a volcano in Kalapana, Hawaii. To top it all off, they were floating freely in the water, not on a boat or on dry land.
Don’t get me wrong, I deplore paparazzi photography. The word paparazzi makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The thought of stalking celebrities with my camera like a blood sucking mosquito seems not only like a giant weight on my moral conscious, but also totally boring. So naturally when I came across these photos on Time from Ron Galella “America’s Most Famous Paparazzi,” I started to feel nauseous upon reading the headline. Then I looked at them. I realized that these come from a time when the plague of the paparazzi wasn’t nearly what it is today. Many of these photos look like the celebrities almost welcomed his presence.
