Let me start out by saying this is not a personal attack on any particular individual, nor on the photographer that created these images, Soren Dahlgaard. I get that art lies, at the very least, in the eye of it’s creator. However, sometimes I run across stuff online that is labeled “art” and it makes me just shake my head. Photographer Noah Kalina was one of the first people to make a viral video on Youtube, back in 2006, when he posted a clip made out of self-portraits he took of himself for 6 years. He called it “Everyday“, and got over 23 Million views. It got so big back in 2006, even the Simpsons made a parody about it. Today, Noah uploaded a new version of the video, this time it includes 12.5 years of self-portraits. Every day, for 12.5 years. crazy.
Working as an investigative photographer for the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC), Lewis Hine (1874-1940) portrayed working and living conditions of children in the United States between 1908 and 1924. The Library of Congress’ National Child Labor Committee Collection includes more than 5,100 photographs that came with the records of the organization. Many of the pictures are familiar, but others are relatively unexplored. [more]
These images were taken by Austin-based photographer Dennis Darling. These photos of some of the last living Holocaust survivors are part of his documentary project called Families Gone to Ash. This group of individuals in particular were held at Terezin concentration camp, located in what is now Czech Republic. I would love to see more of his work, but Darling lives under the radar, with very little web presence.

Russian photographer, Alexander Khokhlov, hailing from Moscow, has created a brilliant series of B&W “beauty-eque” portraits. I wish I knew who the MUA was so I could give her/him credit, because they did a friggin INCREDIBLE job on this shoot, whoever it was. I really love everything about these shots and it is the kind of series that pushes me to think outside of the box and find something to do that hasnt been seen before. We’ve all seen breasts before, however in her series, French photographer Emmanuelle Brisson offers images that are an example of penultimate feminism. The titles are what bring De La Sensation together. As the startling photographs deliver a powerful message of women as “things.” No matter the guise of society or action, Brisson’s images argue that it is all driven by sexual objectification. [more]
These murals are the work of Italian street artists Sten and Lex. The video shows some behind the scenes footage of the mural they created for Open Walls Baltimore earlier this year. I would love to see their work in person; there is so much movement to them that can’t be captured in a still image. You can see the effect in their videos a little bit. Beautiful work! [more]

This year Mattel has once again teamed up with designer Robert Best and photographer/videographer Paul Jordan to create another amazing collection. In honor of the Mars Curiosity mission, NASA commissioned a series of unusual, sci-fi-style surreal images from the duo known as “kahnselesnick” called Adrift on the Hourglass Sea. They were asked to create a series that represented the pair’s vision of an existence on mars. [more]
