It’s definitely not the same photo, left was taken w/o a strobe, they ‘touched-up’ photo has a strobe or possibly static light. Also very different perspective, look at the size of objects in the background, left is more telephoto, right image was taken slightly closer and more wide.

The one of Penelope Cruz is so bad that it seems like the work of a beginner. The one of Jessica removed her warmth and slight smile/personality and made her look cold and cocky. I think the trends in these types of retouching are a bit sad.

I never do the thinning stuff (aside from the occasional neck roll if it’s too bad) The Penelope looks like a pretty standard b&a for my photos. I give everybody at least a tiny bit of skin brushing.
