The Fstoppers Logo contest has ended and after over 1500 submissions I can say that I believe all possible avenues have been explored. Both Patrick and I went through every single logo one by one separately and we narrowed them down to our favorite 17. Check out the full post to see our best options and vote on your favorites.
Try to look at each of the logos before with fresh eyes. If you truly believe that number 18 (our current logo) is the best, I want to know, but please don't vote for it just because you recognize it. I have my list of favorites already but I don't want to reveal them at this point. I want to hear what you guys think.

well then keep the 's' too - though I think it is clean and nice with just the 'f' and I don't see that folks would 'not' continue to refer to you as 'FS'
and I just re-read my own post and realized I said hex when I meant octo - I just came up with a simple solution as well that keeps the 's' and adds an element I think is even better and still very clean - will post tomorrow
so I am no pro for sure but here is my quick hand drawn simple octo shutter 'FS' - I can have my brother polish up a much better version if you want
and yes I stole your 'FS' to mock this up - no need to recreate the wheel - and I am just not that talented

Quite a few of these look VERY similar to existing logos. Just google "FS Logo."

A simple 'fs logo' google learns that,
Number eleven and thirteen are already existing logos.
I wanted to participate in this project, but i was too late unfortunately.
I've some experiance in logo design, so before the winner is choosen maybe you guys can rule out some possible (accidental) copies.
As a graphic designer and a fashion photographer beginner, I chose 17, 12, 4, I hope to hear from you guys ( I also would like to become a Pro Photographer maybe I can work with you guys.

I don't know much about the logo design process, but I know a lot about branding. I can't help but feel that you are changing your logo for the wrong reason. Simple and recognizable logos are pure gold in marketing. Your original logo may have only taken a few minutes to make, but your first guess is often the one to go with. In my opinion, freshen it up with a color scheme, etc if the mood strikes, but I personally wouldn't change your logo. You already have what the very thing that we look for in a logo... an instantly recognizable brand. Cherish it. It's good.

Here is some of the ones I had done, I made 30 .. I did a lot LOL
I think 18 is the best, It's very easy to read and it fits the mood and style of the site. I think 1 and 3 are nice logos, but 3 is too corporate and harsh.
When you look at your icon It has to tell who you are w/o words. Most of them while looking nice don't really have apparent "FS" and a whole lot of them are too similar to other logos font design from well known companies.
Round and circles are easier to process by the human mind, eyes are drawn to circles over harsh corners. We compare circles to non-threatening objects such as the moon, eggs, smiley faces, pies. These are all feelings I had about the designs before even googling the psychology behind it to explain myself better.
I honestly can say not only do I like 18 the best, I think it fits the company the best, or as I perceive the mood and feel of it. By the designs you've narrowed down one can see you like simple and clean the best. I don't believe anything does that better than 18. If you HAD to pick something different, I would pick 1. While I think 4 and 13 fit what I see as FStoppers.com I do not think they do a better job than 18. I like 3's font a whole lot, I think the icon is too corporate and impersonal. It is better fitted to something like a financial institution or investment firm.
Just my 2 cents...
One thought, is you can give your site a "facelift" by flattening all gradients and things like Google and Microsoft have done, and Apple will implement with the coming of iOS7.

#11 showed some potential but the S sticks out too much which defeats the purpose of highlighting the F more.
#10 is not bad but can't really tell if the f is first or last in the design
Most of teh other s I ahve seen before...some looks close to airline designs while some are really not cutting it. #18 is a def no...it's nice to see something that would speak more about what you do while still showing a branding effect of your business. I would have tried my hand at this but it seems the contest is over.
You need to add logo 15 or whoever designed it won't have a chance.

4 has a really nice balanced friendly feel to it in the logo
though using the exact same typeface in the logotype to the right as it looks like a photocopy of the
logo. I would think about finding a
simple typeface to compliment it and separate the logo from the type. This
options unlike a lot of the otehrs has a great feel to it and flows nicely
together. The kerning between the letters is spot on and doesn’t feel too
spaced out or separated from itself.
6 is a really nice option, it simple, bold and you can
easily read it as FS (which is one of the few major goals of the design). I
would really like to see what the logo type will look like accompanied with this
mark to futher analize it though.
7 is really nice, almost professional to its max. The F in
FSTOPPERS is a bit too separated (if its already a thinner font butting it up
against STOPPERS wont make it not stand out as reading F STOPPERS) Yes some
have said it looks like a soccer logo but I think it looks like a seal or shield
of some sort and represents a solid choice for reliability in content as you
have shown in your websites content. The kerning could be a little tigher
between the ST and TO and the FS mark could be pressed together to read FS a
little better. I read it easily but some may have trouble if its on its own as
a mark. This is a very close to finished piece with its layout and strong
design elements though.
18 is somewhat timeless (as much as a few years history can
get you) and its what I have looked at almost every day since I started going
to Fstoppers a couple years ago to immerse myself in the photography world. Now
connecting with many of the names associated with the site and being able to
connect with them has been amazing! This logo holds strong with me but I don’t want
to jump to saying it’s the best out of the group just yet. I would really like
to see some minor edits to the logos I stated above before voting as none of
them look polished enough to mark the new face of the website and the brand of
FSTOPPERS.
Sadly my logos were not chosen but with any competition its
tough not to be chosen. I felt mine were well placed and had the strength to
become the new face of FSTOPPERS but welcome a few of these options above as
VERY strong candidates. I would like to take this time to offer my services for
FREE to develop a logo for FSTOPPERs if Lee or Patrick would like to contact me
further. Yes I will be offering free services but to me I will be getting paid
in a chance to work with the guys that have helped me grow as a creative and a
photographer over the past 2 years along with getting my name out there. If you

This exercise perfectly demonstrates why one should hire an actual professional graphic designer to create a logo. None of them are great.

I'm sad to see that a lot of these are copies, one-offs or even exact copies of existing logos you can find at 99 designs etc. After sketching more than 125 different designs this annoys me.
I hope you choose a winner so we can still trust the FSTOPPERS word.
I voted for 15 just because I'm irritated that the issue of it being missing from list has gone completely ignored. For all I know, it was mine and I don't like being left to wonder.
