I have paid to increase my fan base by running FB ads to get more likes to relevant publics (fans of similar bands and music genres etc) and I have also paid for ads to promote CDs to a wide public than I immediately have access to (i.e. people who are not yet fans). ow I have to pay to promote to the people who I've already paid to get as fans too? Great tips, Trevor. My hesitation in sponsoring a post is that I've only seen one sponsored post so far in my personal feed and it was from a relative who liked Era soap (I hate to give them free advertising here), and it bugged the hell out of me to see this at the top of my feed all day. I would hate to bug the hell out of my fans and risk having them unlike my page just because I insist (via the ad) on having my post hang out at the top of their feed. Imagine 10 sponsored posts? 20? I'll stick to posting individual photos when I know my friends are online in the evening. As for facebook paying off for me, it hasn't really. I've dumped a ton of money in the ads (with no $50 voucher, thanks FB), and for the most part get looky-looks to like my page or competitors to click the ad and not like my page. The most relevant advertising so far remains word of mouth referrals from actual photo shoots. It takes a while but results in actual bookings and not fake likes. Not even the rafflecopter giveaway is doing anything for me right now. Like ladders suck and I refuse to participate in such schemes. So, I'll just keep shooting and carry on.

Thanks for the article and the discussion. Great tips, Trevor.
