One Of The Best Online Photography Resources You Might Not Have Even Heard Of

In continuing to bring you low cost or free resources to improve your photography, I’d like to introduce you to The Candid Frame (TCF), a podcast that features interviews of different photographers that’s been running since 2006. TCF is hosted by Ibarionex Perrello, a photographer, writer and educator based in Southern California. Regardless of what you shoot, I consider it one of the most outstanding resources for photographers. Did I mention it’s also completely free?

What makes TCF different (and so incredibly insightful) is Ibarionex’s approach to better understand the mindset of his guest, what makes him or her tick, and to not get caught up in the gear discussions that tend to dominate other photography podcasts. His main focus has always been to better understand how his guests have achieved what they have, their style of working and how it developed, as well as the struggles, trials and tribulations that they may have faced, and how they have tried to overcome these. Martin Taylor works as Editor for the TCF and all interviews are succinct and last about 45 minutes, a perfect length to get deep and meaningful answers to searching questions without feeling too long.

Most of his guests are professionals, but come from across the photographic spectrum and at all stages in their careers. He really does an amazing job of asking searching and probing questions and getting under the skin of what makes his guests tick, which is what makes the show so compelling.

On a personal note, listening to his interviews over the years has really been a driving force for me to grow and develop, not just as a photographer but as an individual. It’s amazing how listening to others who share our passion for photography, often share our same fears, worries and issues that we all deal with at one time or another, and gives us the confidence to push forward on our own path.

Ibarionex started TCF as a means to better understand his photographic journey by talking to others out there, and as a result it delivers more than insights simply into the minds of some amazing photographers. It’s a wonderful platform to better understand ourselves as we progress on our own creative and photographic journey.

Yeah, listen to Candid Frame... Good stuff.

Thanks for the shout-out - as the behind-the-scenes guy, I can tell you TCF is a work of passion. You won't hear Ibarionex pushing his own agenda - he just gets other photogs to speak.

It's good stuff. Thank you for posting, it's helpful!!!
