50mm f/1.4G AF-S
Who It’s For:
Those who love the 50mm f/1.8 but can afford the extra third of a stop. The 50mm focal length is brilliant for full body portraits as well as street photography and anything in low light. If it was good enough to be the only focal length Henri Cartier Bresson trusted, it will be good enough for you.
What We Like:
Optics: This is a really sharp lens at all apertures, although Chromatic Aberration becomes an issue at f/1.4 in the middle of the day when you’re focusing at infinity.
What We Don’t:
Price: At just under $500, it’s a pretty big gap between the $200 f/1.8 and the f/1.4 when all you get is an extra third of a stop.
