I could have shot these same images using a Canon 7D or Nikon D7000 using something like an underwater bag or the new Outex “housings”. So don’t think that any one of you aren’t [...]

Some prefer shots on real water and don´t like the idea of studio shots. I would like to give another perspective to this part of the discussion. I think its just another thing for another purpose.
When you make such shots for advertisement, your client first of all needs security that all the money for printing and publishing a campaign will lead securely to high quality pictures. And all about the photos – clothing, perspective, action, models, light and so on – needs to be discussed and controlled by the client and advertisement agency weeks before and still while shooting – hard to do on the water… If the wanted image is not available as a finished photo it automatically leads to studio shots. Great that you did it perfect in details.I was doing some similar studio shot of a skateboarder as advertisement job. A campaign including 3m-posters – 13 years ago without the possibilities of digital photography. Low budget, with no skateboard scene in front of the door that could be compared with the scene or pros in US. Colours and resolution wouldn´t have been sufficient for 3 x 2m billboards done by documentary shots with a Canon or Nikon. There was no money to go to a pro or invite one to germany that could do a backward flip. But I found a guy who had been working for skateboard magazines as photographer, had the right appearance and had been skateboarding as a kid. We fixed the skateboard with some srews on his shoes and he was held with surf and climbing gear in a studio. He offered me six main positions, we made polaroids, decided which ones we go for and I took 6 rolls with Mamiya 645. The bigger part was arranging the idea of light and colours that was exactly defined weeks before shooting. Post-processing wasn´t possible with a private PC or Mac in that days and was a little more basic than nowadays.

My brother lives in Charleston and we had a nice wakeboard session when I was there last October for his wedding. Great place to live and be a wakeboarder!
