Who It’s For:
The Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM is Canon’s professional 300mm prime lens for sports and headshot photographers. If you absolutely need f/2.8 at 300mm, this is the lens for you, but if you shoot mostly in daylight, you might want to gravitate towards the f/4 model. This lens has been replaced by an updated version the Mk. II.
What We Like:
Autofocus: The autofocus on this lens is very fast and super accurate
IS: Canon says you get 2 stops extra, which, while not as good as the Nikon model, is still pretty good.
Bokeh: This lens produces some gorgeous bokeh. If you absolutely need the background to be completely soft, this is a great lens.
Distortion: There is a minimal amount of distortion on this lens, which is excellent.
Sharp: This lens is fantastically sharp. This is one of the sharpest lenses that Canon makes.
What We Don’t:
Size: This is a massive lens, and is definitely not for hand holding. Invest in a good monopod.
