Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM

Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM

Who It’s For:

This lens is Canon’s top of the line professional super telephoto lens for sports, and nature photographers. Pair it with a fast Canon DSLR and you’ve got yourself a mean combo. This lens has been updated by the MK II version. But, if you don’t need the extra features of the newer model, you can definitely pick one of these up for a little cheaper than the new ones.

What We Like:

Autofocus: The autofocus on this lens is very fast and super accurate

IS: This is using Canon’s older IS technology so it won’t be as incredible as the new lens.

Bokeh: This lens produces some gorgeous bokeh.  If you absolutely need the background to be completely soft, this is a great lens.

Distortion: There is a minimal amount of distortion on this lens, which is excellent.

Sharp: This lens is fantastically sharp. This is one of the sharpest lenses that Canon makes.

What We Don’t:

Size: This is a massive lens, and is definitely not for hand holding. Invest in a good monopod.
