Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM

Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM

Who It’s For:

This lens is Canon’s top of the line professional super telephoto lens for sports, and nature photographers. Pair it with a fast Canon DSLR and you’ve got yourself a mean combo. Chances are you don’t need this lens, but hey, if you can afford it, or you need to take incredible pictures of the moon, why not buy it, or just rent it from BorrowLenses.com.

What We Like:

Autofocus: The autofocus on this lens is very fast and super accurate and it better be. But even so, at 800mm, it will take some real talent to track an object.

IS: Helps with still objects. Canon claims 4 stops of improvement, but you’re not going to be hand holding this lens because it’s physically impossible.

Bokeh: This lens produces some gorgeous bokeh.  If you absolutely need the background to be completely soft, this is a great lens.

Distortion: There is a minimal amount of distortion on this lens, which is excellent.

Sharp: This lens is fantastically sharp. This is one of the sharpest lenses that Canon makes.

What We Don’t:

Size: This is a massive lens, and is definitely not for hand holding. Invest in a good monopod.
