Guess the stock

I was actually pretty surprised when I got these scans back. See if you can guess the stock, the answer may surprise you.

beautiful shots and I love the "look" of these. I've always been a bit of a film hater though because I assume you can make digital look like any film. Do you agree with that or does film do something that digital can't?

Thanks, Lee! Eh that's a pretty polarizing question. FWIW I don't shoot film because it can really *do* anything digital can't, I just love the process of shooting it, the limitations, and collaboration with a lab. :)

Lee, you should see the result of medium format film... I've got a 1954 Rolleiflex that belonged to my grandfather. Its just beautiful the way it works perfectly 60 years later - what a piece of engineering. And the medium format look is gorgeous. Of course you could go digital medium format on me, but you'd have to be pretty rich to do that (I thin the cheapest if like $8k, and digital medium format isn't the same size as film medium format).

I think the reason I'm enjoying shooting film is the latitude in the highlights and the tone transitions. There's something about the smoothness that's more organic than digital. I do love digital for most bread and butter work, though

I don't know. I've tried to get a film look from digital and have not been successful. There is a substance to the film that digital just doesn't have. I swear I am pretty good a picking up film images and digital ones, even with film presents. That said I also shoot digital and love my Fuji a lot. My film goals are to shoot large format anyway. I'm getting into film more and more, and I usually shoot digital and film when I have personal shoots.

Some of my favorite photos of yours dude! Soooo good!

Thanks man! :)

Austin, is she really so wonderfully freckled or is some of that via MUA?

She was pretty freckly on her own but the MUA definitely exaggerated it.

Really nice images! I think this was shot on a high quality film with little grain. Great skin tones. I have no idea what the stock is. Astia? Digital would look very similar. I don't see much film character. It would be nice to see larger files.

Fuji pro 400h in case it's MF ....in case it's 35 idk...it does have a kodak look to it...maybe even...Gold ?

Reala? Portra 160? This is going to bug me.

I would say this is Portra 160, but as you say we might be in for a surprise i would say it's Gold 200.

Portra 400? Kinda grainier as the focus drops off. Great photos.

I'm gonna take a WAG and say it's something like Superia. I shoot that cheap drugstore stuff all the time and actually like it for some stuff.

To me it has some warm tones that say Kodak, but i think im being fooled by the blonde hair and warm light. I feel like there are some green tones that say Fuji Superia ..200 maybe. That's my final guess. I'm curious though. Great shots.
