Why not also remove the pop-up flash so consumers are forced to buy speedlights/SU800? It makes the camera cheaper and forces us into more accessories, Nikon!

Looking at the supposed specs, this looks like an FX D7000 rather than the D700 replacement. No focus motor, 39 point AF, SD cards. You can’t replace the D700 with a model with lesser features.

I only have two non AF-S lens: 80-400 which I would replace if an AF-S version were available and an 8mm Sigma FishEye that I usually manually focus anyway.
What I want is something smaller and lighter than the D800

This is really an awesome piece of news …. D600 at $1500 …. from a Canon user perspective, Canon will have to drop the 5D mkII between $1500 to $1700 to answer for the D600 (assuming they have no plan or answer to make a cheaper model to compete)! Frankly, the current 5D mkIII is well over price for the little features that they have added to 5D mkII ….. with Sony’s soon coming 24Mpx, 100+ AF points, SLT full frame, rumored A99 body, it will definitely force Canon to drop price of its 5D mkIII which has actually nothing much to shine about when compare to the coming A99 body! With the market showing weak supports to 5D mkIII, which at the point of writing are at 13th place in Amazon’s best selling DSLR list, it is only a matter of time for Canon to save her pride and drop prices to remain competitive!

So, everything seems very exciting in the coming months …. frankly, the more Full-Frame coming to the market, the better is for the end consumer like us :)

NIKON DONT LISTEN TO THE HATERS! :) RELEASE THE D600-$1500-body EARLY, like say, ummmm, NOW!. I’LL BUY ONE. and be happy wid it!
OH Nikon, also, BUILD IN the battery grip , and make us buy longer batteries. THAT should piss off the haters too…. ORRR INCLUDE an autofocus motor,in the box, for the body. BUT it isn’t installed so we have to PAY someone to install it into the camera body.ORRR have all the options the other cameras have, BUT we have to select the options, and pay more per option, like when we buy a car and want nice rims and kickass sound systems? :-)

Here’s a thought::
If Nikon simultaneously released a D600E with all the same specs *plus* a AF motor, but it costs $2700, would you choose that over a D600?
