Art.com Acquires Portfolio Site Zenfolio

Since 2006, Zenfolio has been a provider of online photography presentation and sales solutions for professional photographers and enthusiasts. Through its subscription-based service, photographers have access to tools necessary to create their own websites and sell print products to clients. It was just announced that Art.com has now acquired Zenfolio. CEO Geoffroy Martin said the acquisition is an effort to capture "an even larger portion of our customers 'wall share'."

Zenfolio’s integrated hosting solution allows photographers to professionally manage their entire online presence under one roof, giving them an unmatched ability to sell clients high-quality prints and photo products through one destination.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to leverage Art.com’s resources to accelerate our growth and expand our product offering,” said Alex Peyzner, Founder and CEO of Zenfolio Inc. “We are passionate about photography and believe that beautiful photographs should have an equally impressive viewing experience. We believe joining forces with Art.com can further enhance customer experience and advance product development.”

“Bringing Zenfolio into the Art.com family was very natural because of the synergy between the two companies in the wall décor space,” said Geoffroy Martin, CEO of Art.com Inc. With more than 12 million customers in 120 countries worldwide, Art.com Inc. is the world's largest online specialty retailer of high-quality wall art. The company was founded in 1998 with one goal – to help people find the art they love so they can love their spaces more. Offering an unparalleled assortment of art images, Art.com’s vision is to forever lead the way art is experienced and consumed. Art.com Inc. runs three sites in the USA – Art.com, AllPosters.com and ArtistRising.com – and has a strong international presence with 25 local sites in Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, Mexico, and South America.

Art.com and Zenfolio will continue to operate as stand-alone sites. Reviewing the business models of each it seems that this would be a great match up and help provide additional product opportunities for Art.com clients and avenues to sell photos for photographers using Zenfolio. It will be interesting to see how it develops and the companies take advantage of each other's strengths now working together.

Stuff like this is never good. Choices start to be eliminated. Changes start to be made, not necessarily in the users favor. Consolidation is not good.

Then Walmart bought Art.com!
