Faded + Blurred to Close at the End of the Year

Faded + Blurred to Close at the End of the Year

Yesterday, Jeffery Saddoris, co-author and curator of the photography inspiration site Faded + Blurred  announced that they will post their last article this Friday, September 26th, 2014. Faded + Blurred has been in operation since 2009 and since then has published over 1,000 beautiful, inspiring articles and really pushed the industry in new and exciting directions. In the podcast On Taking Pictures which is co-hosed by Saddoris he explains the decision to step away from F+B coming as a result of the need to engage a larger, non-niche (strictly photographic), audience.

It's still unclear what Jeffery plans to do with the existing F+B site, as discussed in the podcast he will at least keep the site up through the end of the year (2014). After such time it's possible the articles will no longer be accessible to the public (though they will likely be archived). I encourage everyone who hasn't had a chance to read F+B to do so, I'll be saving my favorites to Instapaper to keep a sort of pseudo anthology for my own reading now and in the future. According to Jeffery, he will likely do a similar sort of culling-down of the F+B articles for publication on the new site.

The new, yet-to-be-named, project will carry the same ethos of F+B while extending beyond the genre of photography. It will, according to Jeffery, be a place to continue larger conversations about creativity, art, and the process of making. In the podcast he expresses the hope for more community engagement in the form of guest submissions, reader / listener feedback, and the hope of creating a community.

While I am truly saddened by the news that F+B will no longer be updated and, indeed, likely closing its doors at the end of the year I am encouraged and excited for what's coming next. If it's anything like Jeffery's new podcast, Process Driven, I will be checking in with it as frequently as I am able.

I write this article both as a reminder to check out F+B while you still can and as a sincere thank you to Jeffery and Nikki for their work. Thank you both for your time, your talent, and your dedication to making an impact. Jeffery — good luck on your next venture and please, for the love of god, publish the next episode of Process Driven. Seriously.

If you've been impacted by Jeffery and Nikki's work at Faded + Blurred I highly encourage you to drop them a line at info@fadedandblurred.com to let them know what the site has meant to you and wish them luck on their next ventures.

I will certainly keep you updated with the details of the closing of F+B as well as the process and progress of the next site. Stay tuned for more details, I'm sure there are exciting things ahead.

I've been a big fan of the tireless effort and appreciation for the art of photography that Jeffery has poured into Faded & Blurred. Following an appearance on an early podcast interview I met up with Jeffery and Nikki in LA when I was working there several years ago and i've remained in touch ever since. They are both two of the nicest people you could meet and I also wish them every success with whatever they decide to do next, i'm sure if it is anything like the care and effort that has been put into F&B that it will be great. In my opinion Jeffery's talent clearly lies in the art of the 'interview' and I think his work on OTP and Process Driven going forwards will be a great success. Best of Luck.

I echo what Karl said.. Jeffery and Nikki have provided years of first rate content to it's readers and the site will be sorely missed. But I am looking forward to seeing the next phase of what Jeffery has in store.. and I'm sure his new podcast will be as successful as OTP. I'm honored to have been an occasional contributor to F+B and I thank them for the opportunity to have done so. I'm wishing both Jeffery and Nikki the best and again, thanks to them both for the many years of delivering consistent creative inspiration. :-)
