Members of the Ukrainian feminist group, Femen, have declared April 4th "Topless Jihad Day" in support of a Tunisian women who has been threatened with death for baring her breasts online. Amina Tyler originally posted an image of herself topless with the words "Fuck your morals" written across her chest on the Femen-Tunisia Facebook page.

Tyler also posted an image that said "My body belongs to me, and is not the source of anyone's honor," written in Arabic script across her chest. The Tunisian newspaper Kapitalis quoted the Wahabi Salafi preacher Almi Adel saying she should be stoned to death for fear that it would lead to an 'epidemic.' Femen responded with a 'topless jihad.'

Tyler has since been in hiding, Some speculate that she is in a psychiatric hospital, while others say that she is with her family, alive and as well as she could be for someone fearful for her life.

The Femen protests were staged throughout Europe in Sweden, Italy, Ukraine, Belgium, and France. The group insists it will lead to a New Arab Spring. More than 106,000 signatures are on a petition calling for prosecution to those that have threatened Tyler's life.

I'm from tunisia and I really care about such news but seriously guys I really don't know how this could be Photography/videography (or even art) related!!!!!!!! Come on!!!!!!!

I follow the news too, and I haven't seen these photos until now.
So it is photography related.
These are photos.

Thanks fstoppers!

So according to you logic from now on I will call The Atlantic, Huffington Post, NY Times ...etc Photography blogs!! ;)

PS: No it's not photography related!!!! A Photography Blog is a blog about the "art" of photography with all its aspects not a (world) news Blog with Photos!! But you know what?! never mind ;)

hahahahaha

you gotta calm down.

maybe start your own blog?

!!!!!!!

Hahaha :D That was an awesome argument :D
Next time you don't like the food in a restaurant, don't criticise it, just open your own :D

Peace :)

I will.

I do.

You know what, I think you're offended by the boobies.

;)

Wow!!!! You really got me there!!! Nice trolling man!! nice trolling!!! :D

Wow! Amazing!

'You really got me there!' is what people say when they realise they're wrong, and have nothing else to contribute.

Anyway, this was fun Analogue, but I gotta split.

Come back tomorrow with more opinions, we'd all love to hear them.

No!! That was for "I think you're offended by the boobies" !!! But as I said never mind!! I'm not going down with you to such a low level discussion ;)

?Analog chief. Pardon me but I think you started the low level discussion.

I found these photos earlier than this post and I was amazed at the quality of the pictures. I think they are worth being placed on a blog about photography.

well, why don`t we post every news photography on fstoppers than? if its photo than its photo related... but lets take those particular once, that will make noise, bring views. I think fstoppers lost their mind... oh, wait, "fuck their morals"....

Why not post any news photography that has interesting photos? They post interesting photos from everywhere else.

why not? why only this one?

Because obviously they aren't all as interesting or compelling as these. These are great photos. So shut off your political mind and think about them as a photographer.

"pertaining to professional photography of all kinds"

This is an article about photojournalism and shows images from a particular demonstration. Photojournalism is photography. Just because it has photos of topless protesters doesn't change anything. At the very least, It is an interesting set of images and shows the passion of the people and the conflict of an event. It is the documentation of history When you see photos of other protests and world events, don't you consider that to be important in a photographic standpoint? These images captures a part of history-- it's a way for those events to be immortalized thorough time. Going back to the whole purpose of a photography which is to create and/or document something.

This makes it photography related.

it turned you on a little bit didn't it? naughty boy. Great photo's, great news value, great cause, great, great, great!

Some of you have really some Sexual issues that need to be fixed!!!! :D Why the hell is everybody talking about the boobies when I never started a discussion about it!!!! Pathetic :D

PS: ....And no I really don't have any problem with naked Boobies!! I live in Germany for 12 years now an I've seen enough of them in Public :D

AM, the debate about what should be considered "art" seems to be held regularly. Technically, a photographic record of anything is first and foremost, a piece of artwork. Visual art has a long history of both clashes with and collusion with the dominant culture. Whenever a visual record that is presented as "art" clashes with the the dominant culture, then someone will ask, "Is this really art?" The main issues here don't fall in the realm of composition, lighting, subject, or anything else that falls within the realm of fine art photography. But the photography punctuates the issues in ways that the unillustrated facts do not. That makes it culturally relevant art. On that basis, I think one could debate both the photographs (fine art) and the demonstration (performance art) as culturally relevant art. What was the point? Was the point made elegantly or clumbsily? Whose buttons did it push and how? Does it have the desired effect?

photo journalism dude! some of the most amazing works and inspiring photographers have portrayed this genre to the world. they all have atuch of journalism in their works too. look at sally mann, robert frank, steve mccury, i am sure u wud be knowing better than a lot of us.

Best Jihad Ever.

I second that. lol

Yeah

Yes it is a great protest, sorry I missed it. One question though, why are they protesting in English when they are in Paris? Ils ne parlent pas francais?

i am looking forward to next year's women's rally/event "Crotches for a free Croatia"

Is that a nun in the 3rd photo? Man her smile is priceless.

That was my favorite photo :)

For a photo blog these shots are kind of inappropriate as we are also not discussing the photographer that took them. Happily though its nice to see women in Europe waking up to the fact that Islam is not their friend. It's one thing to be born into it, an accident of birth, totally another to have a religion like Islam co-opting the laws of Europe via sharia law. Unfortunately its probably already too late for large swaths of Europe. Maybe people like these will start to stem the Islam tide.

.

Like that last image a lot. (and the nun shot of course!)

circus arrived to town :D

Have the photographers been harassed by the police for taking these shots? I'm surprised they allowed them to continue shooting.

these images are BEAUTIFUL. SO lovin this!

Finally Women Coming Together...Not Being Afraid to Stand Up United, For Their Rights, For Their Bodies, For Their Freedom. It's Beautiful to See How Petty Most Men Are..Bunch of Babies Afraid of Tits LOL. VIVA WOMEN>>VIVA OUR UNITY>>VIVA OUR BODIES>>VIVA OUR RIGHT TO BE FEARLESS WOMEN!!!!
