I’m (was) planning to buy the Nikon d5100. So I was exited when I saw this post. Oke, there wasn’t change much but it’s still cool to buy the new one, right? BAM! twice as expensive as the d5100… So I will buy the d5100 with a discount (probably shops want to get rid of it with a discount). Disappointing in the price Nikon…

??? The D5100 is $850 and as far as I know the 5200 will be around $1150. How is that “twice as expensive”? The D7000 costs $1200 for the record, and in some thigns the 5200 is weaker than teh 7000 but I think it still compensates well in other areas. AT least, as far as I can see as of yet.

So far so good! I was dreaming about the D5100, and the 5200 seems to address some of the issues where I wishes the D5100 was a bit better. So so far I love it!

Yes ! Nothing will be really interesting without it.

Actually the 5100 will remain in production.  They are discontinuing it yet.  I think the giant sensor size is what making the 5200 so expensive.  It will drop in price in a few months, though.  At least in the mean time the 5100 is available and still a pretty good camera.

Larger sensor size? Huh?? It’s still there cropped 1.5 sensor.

Weird, I’m from the Netherlands and everything is expensive in Europe.
                Eg: 700$ Iphone = 700 euro Iphone (1000 dollar).
                And it’s with all big brands. It’s weird that you guys pay 850$ for the d5100, because I only pay 420 euro’s (about 500$). Which means the new 1100$ d5200 would be around 800 euro’s. Twice as expensive… 420 and 800 (d5100 420 euro: http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/280554/nikon-d5100-zwart.html )

Sorry I meant the increase in pixels.

There’s no way Nikon will price the 5200 in direct competition with the D7000. The D7k is currently at $1199 for body only. The D5100 is $800 with a kitlens. A 50% price increase is unimaginable. I would be more inclined to believe the 5200 to be $50-100 more than the 5100. If not directly the same price to retail at about $850-900US. US retailers are already marking down the 5100 to under $600 with the kit lens. You can’t quote the UK/EU pricing and do a conversion to US pricing. UK/EU pricing includes VAT which would price them higher than US market.
