[NSFW] Shoot The Centerfold Encloses Playmates In Bubbles

shoot the centerfold bubbles [NSFW] Shoot The Centerfold Encloses Playmates In Bubbles Now here is a photography idea you don’t see often. Playboy photographers Arny Freytag and Jarmo Pohjaniemi of ShootTheCenterfold.com teamed up with Leica to show how much detail the Leica S2 DSLR camera could resolve…you know with sudys naked girls enclosed in giant full body bubbles. The results are actually pretty interesting and they even filmed a behind the scenes video to show all the action. I know Leica always carries a premium price, but at 1/8th the price, the Nikon D800 is looking even more tempting!

Sure the D800 is an 1/8th of the price. It’s also a 56% smaller sensor as well. These are two different formats. Why compare apples to oranges?

don’t forget about the 16bit native files against a max 14bit

It’s more like comparing a large apple to a small apple.

My point is you will never be able to tell the difference between 16bit and 14bit or Jpeg when published for the web or in video format.  We are going to do a comparison video soon…I’m convinced people can’t pick out a RAW from a JPEG when printed large.  We shall see :)

                Price:
$22,995.00??? wtf. From the link to the BHphotovideo site. Is that 1/8th price of a d800??? eeeek.

You read that wrong.  ”..at 1/8th the price the D800 is looking…”

I have shot with digital medium format (p45+) and canon/nikon systems, (canon is my main system) and the difference is not necessarily in the print. Its in the malleable nature of the file. Even if you compare a leaf 22mp file against a 5dmkII file the difference is not raw detail its the exposure latitude, and the bit depth. You can just do more with a 16bit 12stop dynamic range file than you can with a 14bit 10stop file. You can push and pull those files past the breaking point of a 5d file and then some.  Yes in the end most printers and displays can display a max of 8bits but that isn’t the point. Its not like comparing apples to apples. its like comparing apples to the whole produce department. You just have more options, when you can afford it.

I think you simply have to judge based on taste :)  Does your apple taste better than all those from the produce section?  Chances are the taste will impress far more than any soil or water used to grow it will!

                Lol, Patrick…

                1. I would love a one-way mirror test in which a film crew (no need for a 12 stop range) captures the responses of viewers taking in the results of images from different formats. I wonder what they’d even bother noticing or appreciating… “look at her smile, it’s just like her mother’s”, “Ugghhh… those pants makes me look fat”, “I love his new haircut.”

                2. On the other hand, I’m truly open to convincing. Anyone have compelling examples of how the extra bit depth and latitude makes us want to invest in the costly system?

                3. Or is it all just the law of diminishing returns?

This is exactly the video we want to film :)

The S2 is the finest system I’ve ever shot in my entire life, if I could have one camera in this world it would be that one. Leica makes the best cameras in the world.

does it really matter what camera you use? I’m a believer that the output will always depend on you well you know your equipment and how much you know to get that image. the quality of the photos is always dependent on photographer not the equipment…
