NYC's Largest Rail Project in a Century

NYC's Largest Rail Project in a Century

Living in NYC is great, but it has its down falls. As the city continues to grow we rely on an outdated transportation system. Luckily the MTA is digging away at the largest rail project the city has seen in sometime, East Side Access Project. Once completed the MTA will have added 5.6 miles to the rail system. Check out the latest underground photos from the project.

Where is this system running to and from? It's crazy they can carve these out with such a big city above it....is NYC on swamp land or bedrock?

believe the purpose is to connect Grand Central Terminal with the LIRR. NYC is bedrock where not landfilled

The island of manhattan is on schist. Learned that in Earth Science class. You can see a lot of it in central park.

But yea, East side access connects the LIRR from Penn station to Grand Central Terminal, which will cut out a good chunk of commuting time for people.

They are also doing the 2nd avenue subway line (my company is documenting that construction process :) )

Those tunnels look fine until you realise the scale. They are HUGE. Great pics and I look forward to trying it out next time I am across the pond.

That's crazy! I didn't even notice the little people in the pictures.

You just know this is going to end with a C.H.U.D. invasion.

Reminds me on a Movie somehow. «The Italian Job» or «Die Hard whatsoever». Great Job btw.

I'd love to see him take a tilt shift and go nuts in here

Hey "girls" ... changed the logo? I'll miss the old one, but this one is cool as well!
But the designer was not indicated by Jasmine or that other one, it was? Be carefull with copyrights! ;)))
