[Picture] Please Photographers, Stop Wearing Fanny Packs

As photographers, we have the coolest job in the world don't we? There is one thing that is the opposite of cool though. It is the fanny pack wearing photographer. Yes, I know you it might be convenient, but please, just use a normal bag. If you like wearing your gear then I would highly suggest a shoulder bag or a backpack. Anything but a fanny pack.

You are Rambo, Jeremy!

I think this is a great post.... for those having a hard time with it - note the amazing picture of the guy (gulp...me) in the original post with the blue shirt down on two knees sporting the amazing fanny pack. It's obvious that Lee is just having fun. Huge thanks that one of my favorite sites on the internet knows how to laugh every once in awhile.

Ha! Love this post. I have a thinktank belt with a couple pouches on it. Oddly, I don't normally wear it, I just put shit in it and sling the belt over my shoulder. Over two decades of shooting, I've found that I don't like having stuff strapped to me while shooting.

( a )  ..if it's cool enough for Batman, then it's cool enough for everyone.

( b ) ...please take note: In the US, a 'fanny' is to the rear. The the rest of the world, the 'fanny' is...er... well, to the front, if you get my meaning. Please, can we call it something other than "fanny pack", I'm already having trouble explaining to my kids why I'm reading a forum post about bags named after a ladies private parts. Even 60's Batman called it a "utility belt"....

( c ) Lee, you rock! Keep it coming, and thanks for making my day!

Oh my - some people are too uptight!!!  Lee I thought it was funny.  As a former police officer I can tell you that if what you are wearing around your belt is not a gun then it's probably not that cool.

All that being said I do wear a spider belt and if worn right - it's completely cool, awesome and convenient.  It's only used to temporarily hold the camera while doing something else - like adjusting the lights.  Enjoy and grab a "light" beer (three way pun intended).

- that's why many ex-USSR people(yup, you call them russians and do think that they totally wear huge hats and have bears that drink vodka)...so that's why they call it retarded-american humor...hahaha..it was funny....hahaha...i can't breathe...hahah....ohhh....pleaase, help, can't breathe.
Super, laughed so loud....you're SSOOOOOOO fUUUnny!!! just wasted my time

Lee & Morris, this I just great. Weed out the fanny pack wearers. Every one I talked to so far never could give me cool enough answers about photography.

I love the humor, we need more of that on FStoppers!!!

...and use only long zoom-lenses because they look more cool then those short ones... :)
I use funny belt from Lowepro with 2nd lens, light meter or flash and memory cards. Who cares how do I look? Not me.

It's refreshing to see such politically incorrect humor out in the open! I can't wait for you guys to start poking fun at people of other cultures or maybe people that have different skin color -- that's always hilarious right?

Seriously? If you wanna poke fun at the gear -- poke fun at the gear.

lucky for me I don't have to worry about any of it!  Throw on a pair of boardshorts, slip my 7d in the Ikelite housing, and off to the beach with some memory cards...have fun suckers bwahahaha

Hehe quite funny. All though I wear bags like those some times. My shoulders doesn´t take  a backpack a whole day, either a shoulder bag. Enough just to carry two bodies. Have some gear at the waist really lifts of some weight in a easy way...

As an aspiring fanny pack wearer i think this post is super funny - a perfect way to thin the heard of people who take themselves way to seriously - you guys do an amazing job - a lil BS now and again is good for the soul

cheers

Cmon Lee you dun pissed off the old people..

i think you don't get enough clients so you have plenty of time to waste with silly posts like this one and the other one about hipstamatic...
i bought a canon EG10, wich is a medium sized camera bag [it carries 2 bodies with BG on, 2-3 medium lenses, plus various items like a couple of flashes, triggers, battery chargers and so on], I had it for 32 euros [THIRTY TWO] two years ago in spain, and it rocks. and, it can be worn as a fannypack actually, but that's the best thing in the world! it always hang on my back while i'm shooting around, you can run with it fully loaded without any problem, and you won't look as a fool. as you do when walking around with a large sized backpack with lots of long lenses, just to shoot cats and flowers.

be a little more concrete, you're losing the point with this kind of stupid posts.

I actuslly like this post :D this was the good one Lee :)

This was a joke...and no fanny packs or wearers of fanny packs were harmed.  Except for maybe one or two people who have no sense of humor and who take them selves far too seriously. An open forum without censorship means you just might read something that offends you.The alternative is no free speech is that really what you want. I did not realize that camera gear has been added to the politically correct list of things we can not talk or joke about. When we speak of fanny packs do we now refer to them as the FP word? If we can't laugh about ourselves or our profession then we are worse then lawyers..Every lawyer that I have met has always had the best lawyer jokes?  Anyone know of any good photographer jokes??

I've actually been looking into a "waist system" myself. I shoot primes exclusively, and at times I need to change focal lengths quickly, especially at weddings. "Waist systems" have to be very convenient for that purpose. I'll call it a "Lens Belt" so I won't get made fun of...

Hahahahahaha!!!! That's all I have to say.

HAHA wow people are up tight! It's like the saying goes Opinions are like as*holes, every one has one and they all smell. Fanny packs are a bit weak and that is coming from a vest shooter...

I am a prime lens shooter and need to wear a vest to allow we to swap lenses quickly. But you could never tell because it's under my suit jacket at every wedding.

wow i never thought this post would create such a controversy. ITs a fanny pack peps, people wear it because its convenient. But with all the new inventions of new gear to carry your equipments around i don't think its not so bad for Lee to get some inside humor on us photographers. I don't think he did anything wrong. (maybe besides the fat-guy picture. I think a lot of people who posted against Lee can relate to the fat guy kneeling). Other than that I think this post was funny.

Lol that is funny but I like my bagpack

Ouch!  A bit rough, I really like my ClikElite Trekker "Fanny" pack..  Serves and fills a hole in my bag lineup

Don't hate on thinkTankPhoto for having some sweet photographers fanny packs http://photographysilo.com/2012/03/a-photographers-fanny-pack-try-before... and you could actually try before you buy it now for a limited time it seems.

I don't trust fanny packs for my SD cards. I have a pocket sewed inside my pants with an sd cardholder. Gets very embarrassing when I have to swap cards but that's okay.
