[Pics] The Wedding’s Over: Visceral Barbie Photography (NSFW)

wo1 [Pics] The Weddings Over: Visceral Barbie Photography (NSFW) Have you ever asked yourself, “What ever happened after Ken and Barbie’s Wedding?” Well I found the answer and I’m not sure you’re going to like it. Or you display the same sinister sense of humor as doll photographer Mariel Clayton then you’ll like it a little too much. And let me be clear about this. These shots are not safe for work or younger viewing.

                Why!?

              • ReeseMoore

I appreciate the shock value, but let’s be honest about this… If Barbie ever went nuts after the wedding, she’d probably just get really, really fat.

              • http://twitter.com/kuhriztin Kristin L Caffray

Image 17 seems really out of place…esp with the watermark at the bottom. I love everything else though.

              • David Arthur

while the wedding shots were cute funny…these are disturbing funny.

              • http://www.facebook.com/people/Brooke-Mathews/1353031221 Brooke Mathews

NO! I liked the wedding pictures better……. plus lets be honesty how many times can barbie really kill ken, I mean the guy can’t handle loosing his head every day.

              • Tom Coles

Com’on fStoppers! ….take the high road!  These images serve ZERO purpose on what I consider(ed?) an educational website for creatives.
                Stupid and insulting.

              • Michael DeGrazier

Wow.  I think you’re looking at these in an off way.  I don’t see them glorifying violence at all.  For me, they’re a commentary on the Stepford, suburban, perfect American culture.  Coupled with deeply alarming subtext.  Reminds me of the film American Beauty.  Still waters run deep sort of thing.
I think we all appreciate that FStoppers is technically educational.  A post like this pushes the artistically educational realm.  I hope if you look a bit deeper you can see the difference.
Look into Barbie’s eyes in image 13.  She’s holding cookies for christ’s sake!  It’s perfect.

              • http://twitter.com/Transhawn Tran-Shawn Yu

Is this set part of a Dexter storyboard?

              • Mike M

Yeah, sadly this seems more like an easy ploy at the gratuitous violence that permiates our culture right now.
Not very creative after the second or third time you see the same thing over and over again. It’s like having giant tits or a wierd vag on television… shock value without much art, sadly.

              • wayneleone

I appreciate the creative aspects but not for me. Also, too many images, I got a bit bored. I was surprised they are on FStoppers without some sort of BTS article/video/pictures.

              • http://WWW.LIFEASCINEMA.BLOGSPOT.COM SEAN SHIMMEL

I tire of the all too easy Barbie-innocence-as-detached-cynicism.

              • vonrbuzard

I would be curious how Mattell reacts to this? In the past they haved sued photographers for trademark infringement. And even though they may or may not have a case, they shut the photographer down with lawyer costs

              • http://www.facebook.com/demPho Demetri Arvanitis

Challenge people, push the envelope, tell a new story, show something in a different light. Step over your comfort level, do something different, express something in a manner someone else won’t. This is great. Yeah, morbid and creepy and a little redundant but give this creative person the credit they deserve, and give those who proudly display it even more credit for not being scared by all you closed door, tight wad, self-proclaimed internet critics.

              • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.joubert Samuel Joubert

Hahah wow, this is some fucked up shit, but very well done.

I usually like “social critisism” in photography. I see none here.

The author could have expressed so much more than just people who want to kill each other after they are married. After the 3rd pic, WE GET IT!

He could have recreated barbaric post-wedding rituals around the world, the mundane of married life (btw, you’re doing it wrong if it’s mundane and boring…), etc etc…

Now it just looks like a remake of “American Psycho”, with less dept.

              • Tom Coles

“…all you closed door, tight wad, self-proclaimed internet critics.”
Hmmm….. was your above comment a critique of critics?   …and somehow your observation is more valid then others?

              • http://www.facebook.com/CodyWaynePhotography Cody Wayne Bridges

I think most of you need to get the stick out of your a**es and stop trying to be so properly correct all the time! I found this series to be awesome! The attention to detail is great, lighting is great, concept is great! In all well done to the creator!

              • http://www.facebook.com/christopherkasey Christopher-Kasey Breneman

This suicide motif is getting reeeaaaally cliche. Might as well add some tottally rad actions to complete the blandness.

              • http://profiles.google.com/simon.lynchsae Simon Lynch

which concept? What is the message, idea on motive for this series beisde taking a well know figure (barbie), throwing some blood on it, and giving the whole a wedding theme.

It’s no better than cops or world best police chases. All the element in there a there to shock you… but nothing else.

              • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000013742481 Glenn Marsh

I never would have thought that Barbi was such a crazy bitch. However I don’t think that it would be a surprise for anyone to learn that Ken is a cross dressing homosexual. Someone once said that each picture is more of a portrait of the photographer than the subject.Whether you like or dislike these images there is a creative  element here that involved the planing and the construction of putting this series together. For me if there was  more of a story  with additional images of the couples home life leading up to the climatic killing of Ken I think that it would have made for a better story.

you guys have art degrees, don’t you? It’s a dude who wanted to stage a bunch of photos of psycho bitch barbie, stop trying to read what isn’t there.

These are absolutely brilliant from every angle. The fava beans from Hannibal really did it for me. Kudos for original concept, attention to detail, and creative direction.

              • http://twitter.com/work_of_ants Anthony DiMarco

An original, storybook narration could make it these that much better. After 7 or 8 shots in, it gets a bit repetitive. Or maybe I’m to dense for the concept… Overall though I love the idea.

I’d think this falls under Parody.

Like I said, they may not have a case but in the past that hasn’t stopped Mattel from force artist into huge lawyer fees. They’ve done it before.
Parodies of Barbie isn’t new. Heck they just tried to sue the Bratz company saying they were infringing on Barbie

                Mattel doesn’t play nice

It scares me to think that there are people out there that not only have these horrible images in their heads, but even go further to put creative EFFORT into it and think about such details. What’s to keep  these people from acting out these scenes in real life? Ever see that movie with Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie? Where the killer re-created each crime from a book he had read? This “artist” has some major deep issues, but he is also giving other insane people ideas.

I don’t have any moral issues nor am offended whatsoever by these…I just feel it’s something that’s been totally beaten to death since the 60s/70s and is pretty trite by now.  Also yeah, the artist should be expecting to hear from the Mattel legal team, that’s just how they roll…

I saw a photographic exhibition like this with a Las Vegas theme (where I am from) and all I could do was just scratch my head for many reasons and the fact that I have seen people pay out large sums of money for stuff like that is beyond me.

              • Elizabeth Bailey

I was linked to this from the photos of ken and barbie as real people living in their role reversal lives.  It was funny.  This was just to much blood and guts for my taste.  I am however amazed at the work put in to some of these photos. I would never have the eye for such amazing detail nor the patience.

I absolutely love love love each and EVERY image on here. Fantastic. For so many years the Barbie and Ken Brand has perpetuated the absolute impossible concept of beyond perfect body image and standard of beauty not found in nature, plus the sugar coated ideal of romance and relationship. Hey, sure you can get your Ken Prince Charming, but you must look like barbie with her stunning long blond cascading hair, fantastic boobs, and super long legs with a tinny tiny waist. I don’t know how many millions of girls world wide developed inferiority complexes from this, but it’s very satisfying to see the dark side of the Barbie Myth, because, frankly, that actually coincides with reality, true human nature, and the humor in it is just sublime. ♥
