Terry Richardson and Miley Cyrus, at it Again (NSFW)

Terry Richardson and Miley Cyrus are completely, as you'd say in middle school terms, MFEO. Or made for each other if you can't remember that far back. They both have taken the spotlight and thrust it upon themselves by stepping out of the box and making people want to see whatever they're going to do next. Apparently in their world it just means a whole lot of nudity which may or may not entail Miley thrusting herself into an Arizona Grapeade.

If there is one thing you have to give credit to Terry for, it's the fact that he is consistent and can turn out a editorial like nobody's business. And since the photography community loves to talk about him and like it or not, everyone loves a good Miley Cyrus story, I figured I'd leave you with the gems that have come out of their most recent shoot.

He's doing what he loves. That's success.

Seriously?

Now we're going to argue he's not a successful photographer? If I google "Terry R" he's the fist suggestion. There's not many photogs, living, that can claim that to be true.

its not his amazing photographic skills though.

duh... i know that

its doesn't matter how much talent you have these days. If you don't have the resources & money to do more things; then you just a talented broke photographer that nobody knows.

a lot of that is due to wise investments. Not just what he made from shooting, regardless of his very lucartive contracts

It also doesnt stop that he's a known sexual predator either. Creepy bastard

Calling someone that, when absolutely no charges or even a police report has ever been filed, is wrong. I'm sure you wouldn't like it if someone did it to you. It's not OK just because he's famous.

hell yeah he is. If i made $58 million last year, I wouldnt give a f what anyone on any forum, blog, website says about my work.

Really ? when you have money nothing interest you anymore ? I though photographers live also for the passion and not only for money.

it all depends where are your standards are. terry is a "commercial" photographer! commercial means there are special kind of "goals" in it. it should be recognisable - "check", it should gather attention - "check", it should sell - check! and if possible it should be original - it is doubtful, but since he is the first one became famous for this style in celebrity-fashion (i know there is also Jurgen Teller and few famous before him) so i say "check". and now very important! Terry`s work is Terry`s work! means it represents his character, his personality. its a sincere expression of what he is. if you meat him - you`d know that.

if you long enough in photography - you should know that at some point its not about lighting, composition or processing. its about how sincere your work, how original it is and if it reaches your goals or the goals of your clients (if its commercial work).

i Agree, he just enjoys the daddy´s fame and money

April Fools! Right?

it looks like a guy with a disposable camera who hired a prostitute

Your profile picture looks like every other baby picture out there. See how subjective and useless that comment is?

Nothing is subjective, the problem is that not many people can explain things properly. You can explain art just fine by knowing the parameters. You could explain it from the biological, genetical, aestethical or circunstancial point of view. So, without writting too much I could say to you that you are wrong and art isn't subjective at all.

What baby picture? That's a self portrait.... I mean I was trying to be subjective

Just yuk.. and not to mention really creepy looking!
They're just bad photo's as well.. She could have done the same job for herself with her eBay'ed N80, pop-up flash and a tripod !!

He is Terry Richardson and you are not. So stop whining about pros never do this never do that....blablabla-sermon. I heard this kind of ignarance and JEALOUSY a million times before. Six letters: Boring!!!
It´s his style, He´s known for it AND he makes a living of it. I would love to make that photosession with miley - she looks like fun!

And by the way, Helmut Newton took shots with nude models and looked in the mirror as well.... Study the masters before you open your mouth for some blablabla of how something has to be done...

You are a Hanna Monatana Fan! LOL

And you are an idiot! LOL

LOL! Grab your lolipop and watch Hanna Montana! LOL

You are a Hanna Montana fan! LOL

Thing is, Newton cleaned the mirror first. Richardson spunked on it. (I prefer Richardson, just saying.)

the reason photographers (usually male ones) dont like the pictures is because most of them are hung up on their gear. and technique, and the numbers etc...

then richardson comes along with his pop up flash images and shows that gear means nothing, and how it is capturing the person, their heart their mind and their emotion.

Thats the part of photography you cannot teach, and no amounts of gear will cure.

Richardson walks away with the cash because he doesnt care what he is holding in his hand, only what he sees with his eyes.

Word!

Andrew Williams's picture

I don't think that's the reason. From what I gather it's because not only does he not care about gear but it also seems that he doesn't care about composition and concept. His style is good in certain situations but in this shoot I think it falls short.

I think it works out great for this 'shoot', it's supposed to be raw, not some studio perfect shoot. His editorial shoots pretty different than these....essentially Tumblr posts. This shoot achieved exactly what it was supposed to! Raw snapshots of a controversial pop-star shot by a controversial photographer.

Yep, most people don't see his work from GQ and other magazines. They only see the photos he posts on his blog that he shoots of his celebrity friends at his studio.

This...

Jealousy is such an ugly thing. Most who diss is work have thousands of crap images on their hardrives and probably the same amount on Flickr.
