I simply adore the graphical composition of this shot.

“This picture of a cyclist was taken in Bergamo, Italy. I was intrigued by a great size zebra crossing and I decided to wait for a bike to have it on this zebra and catch this moment, and this contrast looks great to me. ”

Ferris Wheelhttp://fstoppers.com/potd/ferris-wheel http://fstoppers.com/potd/ferris-wheel#comments Sun, 19 May 2013 00:04:54 +0000 Mike Kelley http://fstoppers.com/?post_type=potd&p=86710 Tom Margol sent in a fantastic, moody pair of shots and I’m happy to include both of them in this month’s POTD contest (check out both today’s and tomorrow’s POTD to see them both). This is more proof that the gear doesn’t matter, as he shot these both with a smartphone!

“This picture of a ferris wheel was created on Heineken Open’er music festival in Poland which took place on an old airport and it was completly covered with fog in those days, so the mood was extremly inspiring. It was music festival and I couldn’t have with me more than my phone, so the pic was taken with Samsung Galaxy ACE. This photo is a part of series called Mist.

Cloudbreakhttp://fstoppers.com/potd/cloudbreak http://fstoppers.com/potd/cloudbreak#comments Fri, 17 May 2013 23:57:19 +0000 Mike Kelley http://fstoppers.com/?post_type=potd&p=86708 David Jackson sent in this phenomenal shot of a tram breaking through a layer of clouds at high altitude. Says David…

“Breaking through the clouds are days I can never forget. I headed up the mountain that morning, fought 5ft snow drifts, heavy sleet, and phenomenal rain… The shot turned out though…”

Highway 90http://fstoppers.com/potd/highway-90 http://fstoppers.com/potd/highway-90#comments Thu, 16 May 2013 23:55:08 +0000 Mike Kelley http://fstoppers.com/?post_type=potd&p=86706 Wiehahn Diederichs

“This shot was taken in Israel on Highway 90, on the way to Eilat. In between barren lands of rocky desert and scorching heat waves, this road was the nearest thing to civilization I had seen for a most of the day. The heat was unbearable. The air felt thick and heavy. The tour bus had stopped so that we could stretch our legs but barely anyone stayed outside for more than a few minutes, hastily scrambling back to the air-conditioned confines of the bus. It was in this moment I gained a huge amount of respect for photography. It removed me from my comfort zone. As soon as my eye found the viewfinder and I l saw that magical world one can only see through a lens, I instantly forgot about all the discomforts. I had found peace.”

Frankfurt Delayhttp://fstoppers.com/potd/frankfurt-delay http://fstoppers.com/potd/frankfurt-delay#comments Wed, 15 May 2013 04:10:44 +0000 Mike Kelley http://fstoppers.com/?post_type=potd&p=85591 Jan Klimes sent in this photo, which has a wonderful graphic composition. How many times have we all been in this situation? Oi! Great capture, I love the black and white conversion, too, Jan!

“When flying through Frankfurt – one of the biggest airports, I had plenty of time shooting internal places of terminals. I aimed specially to people in front of big windows, sleeping, resting, preparing for flight. Shot with 5DMII + 24-70L, converted to black and white, added contrast.”

Great captures, Brandon!

“LHD-1- I was in the middle of the Caribbean Sea deployed on the USS Wasp (LHD-1). I took the picture of a Navy MH-53 Helicopter landing on the Wasp after we returned for a counter drug mission. I was flying in a MH-60s Helicopter when i took the picture with my Nikon D50. I used the Nikon 18-55mm kit lens at f/5, 1/100sec, ISO 200.”

Gallardohttp://fstoppers.com/potd/gallardo http://fstoppers.com/potd/gallardo#comments Sun, 12 May 2013 08:36:05 +0000 Mike Kelley http://fstoppers.com/?post_type=potd&p=85595 Today’s hot POTD was sent in by Nathan Leach-Proffer and depicts a bright yellow Gallardo contrasted against a few grain silos – great composition!

“This was a location that I had in mind for some time and the bright yellow Lamborghini was a perfect fit so I finally shot at it. The sun is peaking through the silos while the car was lit with two AB800′s. The only downside to the shoot is that the ground had started to thaw bringing out all of the cow smells.”

Aurora X-Trailhttp://fstoppers.com/potd/aurora-x-trail http://fstoppers.com/potd/aurora-x-trail#comments Sat, 11 May 2013 04:10:33 +0000 Mike Kelley http://fstoppers.com/?post_type=potd&p=85593 Today’s POTD comes from Tromso, Norway, and is by Tom Davidson.

“Solar winds hit the earth’s atmosphere on 9th March 2013. Luckily, the clouds opened up a bit that night, so I could witness this phenomena that colors the sky green. The power of the lights colored the snow completely green! The aurora crosses its path with my rental car, the Nissan X-trail. Really loved this car and it makes a nice aurora exploration car, with its panoramic roof and heated seats :) The aurora is such a overwhelming phenomenon, one should see it at least once in a lifetime!

info: 1 shot, RAW, Canon 5DmkIII, Samyang 14mm, near Tromso, Norway”

Unicycle Selfiehttp://fstoppers.com/potd/unicycle-selfie http://fstoppers.com/potd/unicycle-selfie#comments Fri, 10 May 2013 08:19:48 +0000 Mike Kelley http://fstoppers.com/?post_type=potd&p=85585 Amira Silverman sent in this self portrait, which I love for the simple fact that everything in this picture shows a bit of independence.

“This is a self portrait of me on my unicycle. It is an unusual form of transportation but makes a great and challenging subject to photograph because of the great lines is makes. I took this on the road right outside my house as the sun was going down with a Canon T3 Rebel.”
