Whenever I take a moment and look at landscape photography it's like a tiny escape. An escape from the busy commotion of the cities that we live in and the chaos of the people in those cities. Most landscape photography is calm and serene with a beautiful array of colors acting as a canvas. Photographer, Benjamin Edelstein known for his stunning work sits down with us to talk about what it is to be a landscape photographer.
Día de Muertos or Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday that has seen a spike in exposure in the United States the past few years making it a perfect subject for a photoshoot. Follow Jay P. from The Slanted Lens as he takes you behind the scenes of his latest shoot featuring a model dressed up as a Calavera (sugar skull) posing in an eerie cemetery backdrop.
The dreaded Myspace Angle, a condition that has plagued countless of self portraits for years. The extended armed and high angled photos still clutter up our Facebook newsfeeds long after Myspace whittled down to music bands and glitter graphics. Is it safe to assume that even Superheroes take the time out of their busy 'saving humanity' schedules to take a selfie? Apparently they do.
Benjamin Grelle better known as 'The Frogman' scours the internet to bring you a daily dose of humor to your otherwise mediocre day. Not only is Benjamin a pretty successful blogger, but a creative photographer, as well. Recently Benjamin created 'Warp Dogs', a cute and unique series of photos of dogs doing what they love most while traveling... hanging their heads outside of the car's windows, but at warp speed.
Interesting story of the week. Famous blogger, Perez Hilton is being sued by NYTimes Photographer Robert Caplin, who also runs the Photo Brigade. With filmmaking it's not just the camera operators, directors, actors or even the composers that bring a good well-rounded film together, you also have to have an amazing sound team. It seems to be such an insignificant thing when creating a film, but in reality sound mixing can create the mood of the film just as much as the acting or lighting. Follow the team behind Zach Snyder's 'Man of Steel' as they discuss how they created the mood for the 'super' blockbuster.
'Man of Steel' is number one right now in the box office. Whether you loved the movie, hated it or haven't even seen it yet; it's hard to argue that this installment of the Superman franchise was a step up from the last iteration. Check out this 13 minute long behind the scenes feature on the movie where they discuss the making of the movie. Watch closely and try to pick out different lighting set-ups.
Dave Engledow is not just a great photographer, but he's a pretty awesome Dad, as well. After the birth of his daughter Alice Bee he wanted to document her childhood in the most creative way he could. Not a professional photographer (Dave works in progressive politics and worker's rights), but the photos are well shot and thought out. If you're wanting a little parental inspiration and a few laughs click below. Happy Father's Day!
The debate on retouching is definitely a heated one, and none so much more than the retouching done on celebrities. Just recently Noam Galai posted about the unrealistic retouching done on the new Beyonce ad from Cavalli. Keeping the topic open take a look at these animated .gifs of celebrities before and after the royal Photoshop treatment. Do you think retouchers sometimes go too far, or do they look acceptable to you?
Stage 5 TV is known for their clever take on geek culture with high production value. Their latest project is a fun video parody of one of television's best shows, 'Game of Thrones'. Many times parodies are filmed with DSLRs, so it's nice to see a company raise the level and use higher-end equipment like the RED cameras. WARNING: Vulgar Language.
Comicbookgirl19 has to be my favorite channel on youtube at the moment. She and her trusty side-kick, 'Robot', review the latest shows, movies and comic books. Recently she interviewed one of the greatest practical special effects artists of our time, Alec Gillis. They discuss why practical effects seem to be losing traction in the film industry and how it will affect future filmmaking.

Benjamin Von Wong has finally wrapped up his long and productive European tour, Von Wong Does Europe. The very first shoot that he was able to do was also ironically the last to be published and for good reason. It will blow you away. Taking over 60 hours to retouch Ben collaborated with talented retouching guru, Chester van Bommel.
Copyright Infringement and Facebook seem to be going hand in hand lately on the internet. In the last few days I have seen several stories about Facebook users posting professional shots without giving the photographer proper credit. Russell Ord, a talented ocean and surf photographer had a run-in recently with a Facebook page and had a few choice words.
