              Rokinon Announces 24mm & 14mm T1.5 Cine Lenses

Many folks already don’t trust third party lenses, which is a shame because there are a lot of great options out there. Rokinon doesn’t have the established name recognition that the other major players do, but that doesn’t stop them from putting themselves out there. With this new Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine Lens, they might just get some attention.

The Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine Lens was developed primarily for film and video applications. The cine version of Rokinon’s 24mm lens features industry-standard gearing for the focus and aperture ring, and the aperture ring has been “declicked” for smooth iris pulls. The aperture and focus scales have also been relocated to the side of the lens, where it is easier for focus pullers to read them.

The Rokinon 24mm cine lens is compatible with full-frame sensors. APS-C sensors with a crop factor of 1.5 – 1.6 will exhibit a 35mm equivalent angle-of-view equal to approximately 38mm. The optical construction is comprised of 13 lenses arranged in 12 groups. Four lenses are low-dispersion glass (ED), plus two aspheric elements. The 24mm features Ultra Multi Coated (UMC) multi-coated lenses for improved light transmission and resistance to ghosting and flares.

              The new 24mm Features:

              • Fast T1.5 wide-angle lens
              • Full-frame, 35mm-sized coverage
              • Geared focus and aperture rings
              • “Declicked” aperture ring for smooth iris pulls
              • Aspherical lens elements and UMC multi-coating
              • Detachable petal shaped lens hood

What do you all think? Would you consider this lens? It’s available now for pre order for Canon EF mounts and Nikon F mounts.

The Rokinon 14mm T3.1 Cine Lens for Canon EF-Mount is optimized for film and video applications. The focus and iris rings feature industry-standard gearing, which provide an interface for use with a follow focus. To aid focus pullers, aperture and focus scales are marked on the side of the lens. This 14mm lens produces a 115°, ultra-wide angle-of-view when used with a full-frame or 35mm camera. Hybrid aspherical lenses render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations, and the minimum focus distance is 11.02″ from the lens.

Some cameras will require that Shutter Lock be disengaged when using this lens.

              • 14mm lens with approximately 115° angle-of-view on full-frame cameras
              • Industry-standard gearing for focus and aperture rings
              • “Declicked” aperture ring for smooth iris pulls
              • 14 elements in 12 groups with 3 high refractive index elements, 2 ED element, an aspherical hybrid element and a aspherical glass element
              • Ultra Multi Coated lenses minimize flare and ghosting
              • A minimum focusing distance of 11.02″ (28 cm)
              • A built-in petal-type lens hood

This lens is also available for both mounts: Canon, Nikon

NOTE: Image above is of their 35mm.

                Umm, 24mm * 1.5 = 36mm.  It’s only 38mm on Canon cameras. 24mm * 1.6 = 38mm. Your bias is showing…

I do plan on getting this lens, I also plan to get the 35mm version. I just hope they continue and make a 50mm, 85mm, and a 105mm version as well…

No one cares… Give the bias shit a rest.

A 50 and 105 are pretty must haves in a prime set. These lenses have definitely got my attention.

BOOM, Update, So since then they have announced an 85mm T1.5, and I messaged Samyang on facebook for a request to make a 50mm & a 105mm, They responded and said they would send the idea into R&D….

i’m confused by this… is the 14mm T1.5 as well? Or is it T3.1… the title of the article make sit seem like it’s T1.5, however the body of the article mentions T3.1

              • http://twitter.com/BoogieRoc boogie rocamora

It’s a T3.1. I’ve ordered one and its on the way. If it was T1.5, I would have creamed myself for the price tag.
