I’m always a little leery of sales like this coming from the likes of B&H, Adorama, and J&R, among a few other stores. They are notorious for repackaging returned items and selling them as new, typically discounted as you see here. Of course, you can always see it as an opportune gamble. If the device works as expected, then you’ve lucked out. If not, then of course you can always return it. While the manufacturers warranty will still be in effect, typically the manufacturer
will tell you to return it to the place you bought it from. If you’re in the NYC area you can always examine the packaging right there in the store before you buy. These folks have gotten real good at repackaging however.

That said, this doesn’t guarantee that these are indeed returned items, but I’ve dealt with these folks long enough to suspect nothing less when I see deals like this. As I said, you can always see it as an opportune gamble, if you are willing to throw the dice. It certainly looks like a good gamble to me, but I have the luxury of being able to walk in the store and examine it and/or return it immediately if I’m not satisfied.

How do you know they repackage products.

Because I’ve experience it firsthand, at B&H, Adorama, and J&R.
Years back, Adorama was also caught doing this with scuba gear. It’s one thing to re-schlep a camera, DVD player, etc, but with scuba gear, now you’re talking about life support.

I’ve also seen this activity in music shops like Sam Ash and Guitar Center.
