When I shot video I made sure to lean on something stable and let stationary objects do some of the work for me without the shake of my hand affecting the shots. [more]

The subject of this short is awesome in itself, but it’s also one of the first Short films to be done on the Canon C100. Let us know what you think! [more]

[Editorial] If You Don’t Own It, Why Not Rent It?http://fstoppers.com/if-you-dont-own-it-why-not-rent-it http://fstoppers.com/if-you-dont-own-it-why-not-rent-it#comments Tue, 24 Apr 2012 20:57:29 +0000 Lauren Jonas http://fstoppers.com/?p=17665 As a photographer just starting my own wedding photography business, I quickly realized how much pro gear really costs. I don’t shoot often enough to afford all of the gear that I need but when I do have a shoot, I like to use professional gear and I like to have backups in case something breaks (especially for weddings). For those of you who are just getting started like me, or those of you who need specialty equipment, you may want to consider renting gear. [more]

[Video] How To Light A Person For A Video Interviewhttp://fstoppers.com/video-how-to-light-a-person-for-a-video-interview http://fstoppers.com/video-how-to-light-a-person-for-a-video-interview#comments Tue, 03 Apr 2012 20:27:18 +0000 Lee Morris http://fstoppers.com/?p=31346 We get asked to show our lighting for our Fstoppers Original interviews all the time but it seems like we always forget to shoot our lighting schemes. StillMotion just released a killer video that shows how they light interviews with key, fill, hair, and background lights. By using Profoto’s new HMI lights with Air remotes, you can easily change the output of each light without moving from behind your camera. Of course all of this still applies to still photography as well.

[BTS Video] Creative Shootsac Commercial Shot With The Red Epichttp://fstoppers.com/bts-video-creative-shootsac-commercial-shot-with-the-red-epic http://fstoppers.com/bts-video-creative-shootsac-commercial-shot-with-the-red-epic#comments Tue, 10 Jan 2012 21:46:15 +0000 Lauren Jonas http://fstoppers.com/?p=19098 Shootsac Commerical1 [BTS Video] Creative Shootsac Commercial Shot With The Red EpicThe guys over at stillmotion have always got their hands in something new and creative. This time, they teamed with up Shootsac to film a short commercial showing the point of view of their Tote & Shoot bag. To film this, they used the Red Epic with a Zeiss CP2 Lens. They really kept their gear to a minimum which is why you see them using the Kessler Pocket Jib and an 800w Profoto HMI for a rim light while filming outside. I’m anxious to see how the full commercial turned out.

In this video, the team steps outside of their standard job to shoot for Shedd Aquarium. They decided to film most of the project on the new Red Epic so that they could shoot at variable frame rates up to 300fps. In the video below, they take us behind the scenes of the creation of this project and below that you can check out the reel.

A Moving Moment, A Different Type Of Wedding Videohttp://fstoppers.com/amovingmoment http://fstoppers.com/amovingmoment#comments Tue, 18 Oct 2011 02:49:52 +0000 Lee Morris http://fstoppers.com/?p=14711 As many of you know I (Lee Morris) am a professional wedding photographer. I was never a big fan of wedding videos until I saw the work that StillMotion was putting out. Even if you hate weddings you can appreciate what they do simply from an artistic standpoint. Even though I loved their work, I actually found it discouraging because I knew I could never do their style of video as well as they could so I never tried to film a wedding.

I had the idea for over a year of shooting a wedding video similar to how I shoot stills. If I could slow down the video enough I could deal with basically a moving image, something that I felt a lot more comfortable with. It finally worked out that Patrick Hall had a wedding on a day that I was free and 3 days before the wedding I ran the idea by the bride and then called my buddy Mike to see if he wanted to help me film it. Check out the finished product below and the walk-through after that.

Cameras Used:
Canon 60D
Canon T2i
Panasonic AF100

Lenses Used:
Tamron 17-55mm 2.8 VC
Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS

Panasonic 7-14mm F4
Panasonic 14-140 f4-5.8

Other Gear:
Cinevate Atlas Slider
Photoflex Starlite
Ebay LED Panel

I did a voice over of the video and tried to explain how we shot the project.
