2800$? okay… I get that, Zeiss glass is just lovely and the full frame sensor… ooohwwweee … but wanting people to pay 680 bucks for case, lens hood and thumbrest? ARE YOU KIDDING! (have they heard of china and ebay?) 680$ gets you a fully tricked out x10 with all that stuff bought separately o0 Oh yeah and the VF also costs between 450 and 600? Unreal. Just Unreal… but yeah Sony… I want one :S … I would never get one though, not for that kind of money xD

I want it, just can’t afford/justify it. I do belive it is worth more than the average camera, I would bite if it was safely under 2k. By the time it is, technology will have moved on.

Full frame sensor. High-end Zeiss glass. Small body. These alone make it expensive. Full frame sensors are not exactly commonplace in small cameras. When they become more standard and are available across the different brands, then prices will drop. Look at SSD drives. They were soooo expensive compared to standard HD’s. Now, they’re pretty cheap as more manufacturers are producing them and more people are buying them. However, Zeiss glass is Zeiss glass. On B&H’s website, a Zeiss 35mm f/2 lens is around $1,000. In comparison, Canon’s 35mm f/2 lens is about $300. So just the lens on the RX1 alone is around $1,000. That leaves $1,800 for the camera. The Fuji X-Pro 1 (without a lens) is $1700 and has a crop sensor. I know that many of us were hoping that the RX1 would be between $1500 and $1800. Well, do the math. Look at the breakdown of features, electronics, and mechanics. How about this, compare the RX1 for $2,800 to a Leica M7 for $5000. Maybe that’ll make you feel better :~)

I guess the Fuji X100 has done well, but then it was a market 1st and currently going for $1200.

I’d rather have a CSC than this RX1.
