Cell phone images just don't appeal to me under such awkward lighting conditions or where my seat is more than ten feet from the stage. So once you tire of trying to sneak a brick sized DSLR into the venue and try to photograph without being hassled by security, it becomes a matter of which small format camera can do the job. They all have quirks, software quirks, time lag between shots, poor image quality at high ISOs, the list goes on. So the question that I have is which camera is the best choice for such a situation given that it has to pocket sized? The Panasonic Lumix LX5, the Sony RX100 or the Fuji x100, soon to be X100s or some similar offerings from Canon, Nikon or Olympus? The Sony does take some beautiful pictures, the size of the sensor is sexy, but the camera only has a 3.6x optical view. For the price I would like that to be better. Also at full extension f1.8 lens becomes an f4.9, meh. If someone can recommend an ideal small camera for such a setting, I would love to know.

There are venues where large format cameras are forbidden, such as concert halls, sports arenas, etc., where a small format camera is allowed.
