Fstoppers Original: Peter Hurley's The Art Behind The Headshot Is Live

Peter Hurley: The Art Behind The Headshot is finally available. Peter Hurley, one of the most successful and well known headshot photographers of all time has teamed up with Fstoppers to produce a 4 hour tutorial exposing all of his tips and tricks that he has learned over the past 8 years as a professional photographer. This video touches on all aspects of running a successful photography business but Peter's main goal is to teach the average person about the subtleties of the human face so that you can make any human in front of your camera look interesting.

Peter Hurley spent the early part of his life traveling the world as a professional male model. During that time Peter was photographed by some of the top fashion photographers in the world. As a model Peter was forced to understand the subtle movements of his own face but he was also able to learn the technical side of photography from some of the best in the world. Peter moved to New York city and saw a nitch in the market that he thought he could fill. "I thought that if I could shoot actors headshots like commercial photographers shot celebrities I could be successful." Over the past 8 years Peter has become what many argue is the top headshot photographer in the world.

In this 4 hour tutorial Peter reveals everything that he uses to produce not just technically sound but "interesting" images day in and day out. Although this video does touch on a number of topics, this tutorials main focus is on coaching those in front of your camera into producing the best possible images. We have also decided to bring this "DVD" to you as a digital download so you can enjoy Peter's lessons in 720 HD resolution without having to have a Bluray player! This video is suggested for those who are already professional photographers who want to take their portraits to the next level.

"I really enjoyed, and learned a lot by watching Peter interact with his subjects, which is really an art unto itself. He is fantastic at making his subjects feel relaxed and comfortable, which lets him draw expression and emotions out of his subjects that make a big difference. This alone was worth it for me."

--Scott Kelby, Author, The Digital Photography Book Series

"If you are a headshot or portrait photographer, this is a must-have DVD, and will enable you to immediately take better pictures." Read Entire Review Here

"If you haven’t seen Peter’s DVD I highly suggest it mainly to watch how he interacts with his subjects. He’s a master at that!"

Thanks Robbie. I hope you enjoy it!

Lee...I went to Peter's first headshot intensive and this was included in the package. Where can I download this? Thanks!

This DVD covers my one of my big weak spots. That being said, 4 and a half hours left on this download...

Not only was this a weak spot for me, it was non existent in my shooting before I filmed this. Even while filming this Peter was so over my head because I've never modeled and never thought about this stuff. It took days before I started to get it and it may take you watching it a few times before it really starts to sink in. Keep an open mind, it's very different than your average photography tutorial.

Completely brilliant, really glad you guys made this. It was worth the sheer time spent putting it together.

Hi guys, great teaser for the dvd... looks really great. Nonetheless do you think it would be possible to have short exerpts to see the real content and not the whole marketing pitch behind it? Don't get me wrong, no criticism as i feel that part is really well done, but bits of the real thing make it clear to us future customers :)

thanks a lot,

Every shot you see in the promo besides Lee and I are from the tutorial. You should be able to get an idea oh the type of content from watching Peter in this promo....only we've saved the best stuff for the full download

We didn't mention this but you can see it in the promo, the Tutorial has interviews with Peter about business and photography questions, 7 full sessions with real paying clients, Peter commentary about what is REALLY happening during those sessions, post session recaps, and finally a full length tutorial on how to achieve Peter Hurley lighting with Kino Flos as well as 3 other Strobe light alternative setups including one with only one light and no modifiers!  Hope that helps

I think i'll just put myself on hold until next paycheck, that's coming in soon :D. You guys might have time to do the minor edits discussed below (is that something you are considering on a long or short term).

To be honest, i'm in for the 300$, I do enjoy (even if i only watch online) having a DVD or something hardcover with a box, kind of palpable... and i'm still a techno geek so it's kind of sick.

I think it's a great idea for apple Itunes, and even for amazon etc. it's all a question of margin over quantity :).

Anyone from europe downloaded ? how's the download situation from here ?

Thanks for your feedback, and what's in the DVD. I think that should go in your initial post as it's a seller in itself with the teaser video.

If you are a pro, you wouldn't hesitate to spend the $300. on a piece of equipment, if you thought you'd make your money back in the next 18-24 months, would you? So, if you like his style and you think he's been successful, why try to cut corners on the most important product you can invest in, yourself?

Incredible! This will probably be the most important DVD I will ever purchase. It reaffirms the importance of a photographer to know that a good image depends on the photographer, not the gear. I can't wait!

It looks like exactly what I've been wanting.   There are enough tutorials on the basics of lighting that it's pretty easy to figure out, but interacting with your subject, and making them look their best still eludes me.

It's a little out of my budget at the moment, but I hope it sells well for you.   Maybe one day my budget for these kinds of things will go up, at which point this will be one of my first stops.

Great teaser !! ... I can see people rushing
into their Paypal accounts

I shouldn't. But i'm gonna buy it. Why? One: I love the work of Peter Hurley. Two: I already learned so much in here for free, that it seems only fair.

Thx guys!
