              The Wednesday Rundown 12.08.10

Howdy, and welcome to the Wednesday Rundown. For those who may be new to the site, my name is Jerrit, and I help Lee and Patrick go through all of the videos sent in to us by you, the readers. Not every video can make the front of FS but many videos do have a lot to offer. Instead of throwing all of these extra videos out, I compile my favorites (which are usually the most informative) each Wednesday so you can learn from them as well. If you have a video that you think we might like to post, please click on “submit content” above.

              Hip Hop Band Shoot:

Informative and great images at the end, just like we want to see. Check out this video from Mike and a couple of guys from a Seattle Hip Hop group. Great Job!

              Portfolio Shoot:

Grayson walks us through a portfolio shoot he did with a model around the house. I will say you cannot tell from the images that he is doing this in the house. Keep shooting!

              Fashion Shoot:

A fashion shoot done in a back yard. Fstopper’s readers show us there are no limits, this one knocks one out of the park in a back yard.

God bless, fstoppers! I was in a funk the past couple of weeks. Just a total lack of motivation to shoot due to feeling sorry for myself, therefore sapping my creativity and desire to pick my camera up, even for personal work.

That is, until I checked out my favorite Wednesday Rundown. You see these videos of people just doing the work no matter what, and it lifts my spirits up.

Thank you fstoppers. I give my word to pay it forward with a submitted video soon.

Thanks for the Comment back. Yeah sometimes I wonder will this motivate anyone… and you answered. It is great seeing some guys knock some stuff out. No need for crazy productions just good to see what the others are creating. I look forward to the video. Let us know if we can do anything for you.

                Thanks for the post!

It’s refreshing to see 1$ umbrella and “plastic” tripods in photoshoots and see stunning result.

I enjoy this more than HIGH fashion, big bucks, Hasselblad powered photoshoot. the “low” budget one don’t have that “Yeah but i need this and that to do that same”.

They are more “get out and do it”. Love it!

This is what the Weds Rundown is all about! Not everyone has the means to produce some of the projects we showcase on the front page…okay very few of us do sometimes! We are always glad to promote the work our readers do and inspire those who feel like they are bound by their gear or budgets….these videos prove that you do not have to be :)

Very very very inspiring! This gave me a clue for my next photoshoot with my girlfriend again (2nd time already). I just love the simplicity in the portfolio shoot, well executed and very captivating. Until the next rundown. Thanks! ^_^

                STOP BEING INTIMIDATED BY EQUIPMENT!!!
Much of the Pirelli calendar was shot with a 7.6″ Profoto Zoom reflector. You can get the same look using an Alien Bee with the 7″ or 8.5″ reflector.
I use a US$74.95 PCB 86″ PLM with a Profoto strobe, for some of my advertising work. Tomorrow I’m using a Profoto AcuteB 600 with NO MODIFIERS, just the bare flash tube. This is an author portrait for a book (BTW I could do this with an Alien Bee without reflector).
The reason I use Profoto is the mount. My favorite modifier is the Profoto Hardbox which can’t be modified to fit on anything else. I’ve used a DynaLite with a Mola Euro beauty dish and the light is as good as if I’d been using Bron. I’d expect a Mola with an AB would look just fine.
There is no such thing as a Magic Bullet, no tool that will make you a better photographer. When it comes to learning, you will learn more from watching an accomplished shooter than a n00b. Remember, ONLY STEAL FROM THE BEST!

embrey, I agree with a lot of what you are saying, however sometimes I love the way some “noobs” think out of the box. Sometimes these untrained technically people have a vision that is not watered down like many pros. They still love to shoot and will shoot anything. Thanks for the comment, knock out a video on your advertising shoot.

Totally motivated me as a new photographer. I need to remember that I don’t need to have great gear and a studio to be excited about shooting. All I need is whatever I have to work with.
