I was told for speedlights (like de 580EX or SB600 etc) it’s true, the higher the power, the longer the flash duration thus the longer your subject is hit by light, like Kai says. However, studio monoblocks work in a different way and if I recall correctly, the higher the power on those, the shorter the flashduration is. So for those studio shots you should go to 1/1 or 1/2 to get the most ‘freezing’ of the action.
