Looking into Google Skymap etc – came across this resource that might be of use to people – a map/picture of light pollution through the world – so handy to find an area with less to do starscape photography.

It varies. I saw a few in the video that were 1/10sec 2.8 iso 3200. While Laforet was shooting 15″ exposures. I tend to shoot longer exposures with lower ISO and around a f8.

I think the first location is Mono Lake, just outside of Yosemite.
