[Video] The 5d Mark III and The Jaw-Dropping, Head-Scratching Sport of Radball

Canon France has just released what has got to be the most interesting promo video for a new camera in some time. Not only do we get a sneak peek at the video quality and capabilities of the 5d Mark III, but we also get a look into the sport of Radball: something I can only describe as “soccer meeting BMX meeting Urban Outfitters.”

While the video is certainly pretty cool, it doesn’t quite do anything for me.  Take, for example, Nikon’s D4 Release Video. It had some insane action sports, people risking life and limb, and due to the conditions that the athletes were shot in, we got to see how the D4 performed in bad light, good light, in water, near water, out the side of a helicopter, with a variety of lenses, you name it. That video really showed off the capabilities of the camera. While the Radball video is interesting and somewhat chuckle-inducing, I don’t know if it was the best way to showcase the 5d Mark III. Take a look for yourself and tell us what you think (about either Radball or the camera itself)!

Nice editing, but it really doesn’t “show off” what the MKIII can do.  I

Already seen the BTS of this, and yeah I am not seeing much to show off. Better that what I could do but I’ve seen more impressive stuff on the 5DII. That is not the fault of the camera though.

I think my favourite that I’ve seen so far is the marinette video on here: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/samples/eos5dmk3/

I agree, some of those shots had a really nice presence to them, especially the natural light stuff.

who cares about the camera…. that sport is ridiculous

thanks for the link, that was quite slick.

I’m not seeing anything here that couldn’t be created with a 5D MKII.

Unless Radball is only physically possible if filmed by a 5D MKIII?

              • David_Keller

nice.. looks like the markiii will be way better than the (already good) markii in low light.  i’ll be buying this

What else could they film to show the new options on the camera…. maybe lower light? Maybe they were showing how canon made it a little better with weatherproofing? They updated the focus…? Sick video.

Compared to the new Nikon video this almost seemed like a “Dodgeball”, Will Farrell spoof. I thought any moment a boom box toting Beastie Boy was going to join the fun. Fun video, but no where near something to announce the Markiii.

What I understand from this video is that the mkIII is for hipster willing to do with a lot of bucks what they could with a GoPro or an iPhone (troll alert)
The Nikon video, beyond the fact that it has more rhythm to it, gives a far better impression of what the camera can do.So Nikon 1:0 Canon (and I’m a Canon user, so no trolling)
