Django Greenblatt-Seay and JJ Dreier joined together to form Tree Speed, self proclaimed as "A of couple of Mid-Western guys who spend vacation time traveling the country shooting time lapse photography."
Based out of Omaha, Nebraska, the duo recently took to the road and self produced a 10 day trip to Utah to create a series of time lapse videos. In order of appearance, the team shot in Latuda, Utah (a ghost town), Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Lake Oahe.
What are some of the biggest obstacles that you ran across during the 10 day shoot?
JJ Dreier - "Data management was the biggest challenge of the trip. We wrote about 250GB worth of data for the trip and were shooting thousands of images a night. We were constantly rendering and importing images trying not to fall behind in the workflow."
Flipping their sleep schedules proved to be important as well.
Django Greenblatt-Seay - "We realized after the first night that we weren't getting the Milky Way in the right part of the sky by the time we were too tired to continue. So we popped some 5-hour Energy and became nocturnal the rest of the trip."
From there they hit a routine.
JJ Dreier - "We would finish a shoot at about 4:30 in the morning, get to the hotel and begin importing data and batch processing what we shot the night before. We would go to sleep from 6:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and immediately get back to data. We'd eat at about 5 p.m., then go scout locations 'till dark and begin shooting again."
"We use our day job vacation time to make time for these trips. We are making plans for another 10-day trip in the Spring, and maybe another next Fall. We recently bought a motor-controlled pan/tilt head that will work on the Dynamic Perception dolly. We will bring that on the next trip and probably an additional dolly."

The only time I ever heard of the name Django was a bad movie from the 1970's with a boxer named Ken Foreman in the starring role. Then the movie that just came out. Didn't mean to make fun of your name. None of us get to choose our own name and it's probably the least important part of who we are. Keep up the good work on the time lapse.

I loved it...music and all. It's really important that the two go together to achieve the right balance. The time-lapse scenes are wonderful. I try to do night photography but I can't seem to get far enough from the light pollution to get beautiful skies so I just take photos of the moon phases...I was happy to see the moon float by in one of the shots. I want to learn how to do this stuff!!!
