Wedding & Lifestyle Photographer Omar Carter Dies at 29

We've featured his work on Fstoppers before, New York native photographer Omar Carter was always known for his infectious smile, warm heart and talent as an up-and-coming wedding and lifestyle photographer. The photography community is shocked to hear of his passing on December 24 2013 from meningitis.

Leaving photographers everywhere in shock, his passing has caused a chain reaction of photographers everywhere offering up their time and services to complete any work left undone in his passing. But perhaps his last Facebook post shows how great of a person he really was --

The perfect photo to use for this article.

Always hurts when we lose someone in this industry that was close to us all. Through the power of photography his memories and experiences will be preserved through the work he created.

He will be missed by so many people.

Thank you Zach Sutton, to all photographers, and members of Fstoppers, thank you.

No need to thank me. Omar was an incredible person among the photography community. All of us were shaken by the sudden loss. I felt it was important to highlight what legacy he created while here. Aside from that, I did nothing.

Thank you for posting. For those of you who wish to attend his funeral services, they will be held on Monday at 10a. at his beloved church: "Perfecting Faith Church" 311 North Main Street, Freeport, NY 11520. Viewing will be at 9a. For more inf. please feel free to contact me at: 917.618.8007

R.I.P

Why did he died? Meningitis sounds not that severe, wasn't he taking care of it? He was too young! This is really shocking.

Meningitis? Do you have Wikipedia? I'd hate too see your definition of severe. Meningitis can claim people in hours in some cases.

His last Facebook post sure tells the story of what a great guy he truly was. Makes you wonder if you were to pass away tomorrow what kind of reflection your last Facebook post would have on your own life.

Great photographer!

The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long. Sad news indeed and deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.

Thanks for sharing this, I wasn't familiar with him or his work but I'm glad I get to see it now. What he last posted publicly is touching and inspiring to keep giving. It's important to be as generous as that to spread the happiness. Rest in Peace

Dear Editor:

On behalf of my family members, thank you for acknowledging Omar's talent. He has truly left a photographic lasting impression on our hearts, and memories forever. Omar said it best on his pages; his purpose was to show others how to live loving one another. His talent is helping us work through the pain of our loss. Thank you so much

Sherry,

Ofcourse. I'm terribly sorry to hear of your families loss. As you're probably seeing, the photography community has been shaken by the news of Omar. He was a bright light for alot of photographers.

I didn't know of him, but just 29...The world doesn't make much sense.

Here's a song I made in tribute to my friend Omar (using his vocals), hope it blesses yall. https://soundcloud.com/datkidkel/omar-carter-cant-you-see

Hello. I am a photographer in the DMV area. Omar and I share the same
cousins (on opposite sides of the family) and I offered my services to
his family not knowing that this was already in effect. If there is
anything I can do to take care of any jobs that he left behind that he
may have already received payment or signed a contract for, I would be
honored to volunteer my services to take care of them. Anything I can
do to relieve his family of the hassle of tying up loose ends I will
gladly do. I don't mind traveling if necessary.
God bless you all
for writing this article and a special thanks to any other photographers
that have offered their services. I know first hand what this act of
pure kindness has meant to his loved ones. As we can all see through
Omar's final post on Facebook, that is the kindness that he exhibited on
a day to day basis. Doing this for him would simply be my pleasure.

He was a shining light that will forever live on in our hearts. #RIPOmar
